If the Government were really serious about reducing the number of deaths on the road, why not require all Trafpol to display pertinent messages on those nifty little dot-matrix display boards in the back of their cars at all times while patrolling up and down (a topic hinted at by someone in an earlier post)?

For example:

  • Tailgating Kills
  • Bad Overtaking Kills
  • Undertaking Kills
  • Over-Confidence Kills
  • Poor Observation Kills
  • Tiredness Kills
  • Distraction Kills
  • Impatience Kills

Some for the numpties...

  • 40mph in a NSL Kills
  • Middle-Lane Hogging Kills
  • Turning Without Signalling Kills

A few for the Chavs...

  • Mixing Drum 'n Bass With Burberry Kills
  • Driving A Wikkid Nova Kills
  • How Old IS That Girl???

...and maybe, if the 'scrolling message' becomes a viable proposition (or police cars get wider)...

  • Thinking That Having A Flash Car Makes You A Better Driver Kills
  • Boasting That You've Never Had An Accident In 35 Years Kills
  • Being In Your Car When You Should Be Working Kills

Why stop at motorists? (Answers on a postcard )

  • Stepping Off Pavements Without Looking Kills
  • Playing In The Road Kills
  • Hanging Off The Side Of Buses Kills

Or, to incorporate everything into one finely-honed encapsulation...

  • Ignorance Kills

As I'm aware of possible objections to this, even though my original idea was a serious one but I sidetracked myself a bit , I also include this one...

  • Reading Notices Like This When You Should Be Concentrating On The Road Conditions And Being Aware Of Potential Hazards Kills

I like them....

Trouble is...you only advertise to the car behind you...the car that will never overtake...

Why not do 60mph?

Police motorway manual says patrol speed should be dictated by the speed of the vehicles in lane 1.

That's the speed the gaffers want us at.....sitting in lane one between the trucks...we can monitor vehicle that pass by....

Obviously, it's interrupted by spurts of accelleration to catch those who have trickled past, only to 'boot it' a mile down the road..

I noticed driving in scotland that the matrix signs above motorways have useful messages, about stopping if tired and having patience with other drivers and stuff, pretty good. Starting to happen south of the border but they are pretty uninspiring messages.

Best one I saw was printed UNDER a matrix sign, attached to its post: "This matrix board is not in use".

I could tell that by the lack of words and stuff being displayed

You forgot........

"We will chase you and kill innocent parties if we feel fit"

Don't forget speed kills (you said it) irrespective of who's driving when it goes wrong.......

I've noticed that the police 'beat' cars around our way have got the slogan 'speed kills, slow down' written on the bumper now...
