Hi, apologies if this is a repost.

I may be buying another car at the weekend but I will still have my current car until I sell it. I will have to insure the 'new' car and will be using it straight away. However, this will mean uninsuring my existing car, which is still currently taxed. I know that apparently you cannot own an uninsured car unless its declared SORN. Thing is, I want to sell my current car with tax so the new owner can drive it away (its only taxed until end of March so no gain in claiming it back).
Question is, can I SORN a car thats currently taxed, and will the new owner be able to Un-SORN it so that the tax disc remains valid??

PS - The reason that I will have to insure the 'new' car is that it will need taxing so that I can drive it home.

Cheers!

They'll have to apply for a new tax disc using part of the V5, if I was in your position, I'd just leave it uninsured and taxed, you only get a letter from them telling it to SORN it or insure it first, then it gets more serious, and knowing that it's a computer system in place, you'll probabley get the letter after you've sold the car anyways.
