Video evidence ?
Discussion
One for the legal and BiB this.
Yesterday I was going to mess about with my video camera, and mount it on the dashboard of my truck to catch stupid driving moments. In the end, I left it at home. It's a pity I did, because I would have video'd a classic cut me up manoeuvre. A BMW (I hate to stereotype, but there you go) dived into my braking zone, just before a roundabout. It was completely intentional, as his passenger turned round laughing to see the effect it had on me.
My question is, if I submitted the tape to the local force, would it be likely to be actioned on? Had there been a traffic car there, he would certainly have had a word in his shell like. I'm not some sort of Victor Meldrew whinger, in fact most stuff falls off me like water off a duck, it has to when you drive HGV's.

dunno answer, but sincerely hope it would get taken seriously...but....i think its a bit like the view of vigilantes. If they were all REALLY like Superman (ie all the right moral and ethical codes and unimpeachable judgement)(ignore the flying and Xray vision bit
) then they'd probably (albeit unofficially) be cheered on by the police.
Problem is, they arent. They're always driven by some specific act (like the anti speeing lot whose kid was killed by a joyrider...nice idea, but wrong motivation)...and end up just being lunatics.
I thinm if they started letting people actually input evidence of others driving in via videos, the concern would be that some people would start misusing this to catch anything that specifically irritated them.....and not for the general good. can you imagine being sent 400 hours of people 'not indicating'?? - os thats what Id like to stop em for!!

It'd have to be dealt with on it's merits, but I'd like to think that if you got in touvh with our office to complain about X, Y or Z, you'd certainly get listened to.
Remember though that even if the individual officer thinks there's a job in it, usually the papers have to go via his or her supervisor, then the criminal justice admin department and finally the CPS, before it even gets to Court.
You'd be shocked how many drivers I've put through for "due care" that get discontinued by the CPS... and it's not because of lack of evidence, as I normally only bother with the bad ones on video from the car.

Thanks for the replies.
I was just curious, this guy was being a complete tit, and he knew it. As I said, I don't let anything wind me up, who needs an ulcer?, but had I had the camera on, it would have shown just how daft he was being.
I guess I'll have to send my tapes to your office dibble
if nothing else you can have a laugh when I don't manage to stop, and shorten their cars for them.

B***rds if you rear ended them and killed them, you'd be in trouble, don't worry they'll get theirs.

Council worker: Have you any idea how much damage this bulldozer would suffer if I let it roll over you?
Arthur Dent: No?
council worker: Absolutely none.....................
:hitchhikersguidetothegalaxymodeoff:
Wouldn't it be fun to get to court then show them the video.

Pursuit in my town yesterday of a stolen Ford Escort van during tea-time rush hour.
The van driver performed some amazing stunts, which included, making another lane down a road by driving in between the wall and the treelined kerb, driving the wrong way up a dual carraigeway (missing everything!)
Eventually abandoned the vehicle and he and his passenger were captured nearby...
The video of the incident should be the final nail in the coffin for him...
