Although this topic is now closed, I actually wanted to reply to the post about perceptions - I often see my wife sitting in the passenger seat applying brakes and/or wincing at my driving where I feel confidently on top of the situation that worries her so much.
I often feel like paraphrasing M.Winner " Calm down, dear, it's under control"

You may not think that this is relevant to motoring but After this experience I understand numpties a bit more.
In the supermarket the other day I wanted to do a u turn .I looked over my shoulder coast was clear one woman half the isle away. so I turned around to see woman at leat 10 meters away let go of her trolly and put one hand up to her face and one across her chest.
She had a look of sheer terror on her face. I didnt even do it fast
FFs i could not have hit her if I treid. This woman probably Drives
I dont think she has the speed and distance judgment to do so if she does fact is there are too many numties about. They get scared at things that are not dangerous so they think everyone else is the same.

In some ways this relates to the classic "do you feel guilty overtaking" thread (sorry did quick search and didn't find it) but do people walk and use trolleys like they drive..?
I reckon they do, me for example will never miss an opportunity to tail slide a full trolley round the bend of an isle.....

But then again - there is that silly sitcom which has scene where the social clambering character keeps telling her husband to "watch that cyclist dear" to long suffering sighed response that the chap is cycling on opposite side of the road.... etc etc.....
And then again - my perception of road is different when I go back to see Papa and my relatives abroad - because I am driving from perspective of passenger seat there ..... it is a different view of the road ...and makes difference to driving style and plan I adopt there
Also - related in way to why I think children should not be used to tick off "naughty drivers" past their school - because of incorrect perception and basic immaturity related to such young ages. Wrong to encourage irrational fears...

My wife tested me on track day when I first got to know her. I do not think I had ever been driven by anybody that fast before that in my life.....
Recent holiday in Germany/Switzerland? She takes speed up to 140 mph, Day trip to Locarno? She sees traffic jam on approach to Gotthardt Tunnel and it was
and detour over the top of the mountain - hairpin bends - little traffic up there that day and she treated it like a rally drive .......was smooth drive butI did not dare look down the sheer drops here .... 
OK - am scared of heights - and when the cable car broke down up on Santis that day - hottest day of the year as well - 
. She thought it was "hugest joke" and I was "scardiest cat" Last year in Monaco - knew exactly what Cary Grant felt like on the Corniche ......Wildy decided that she was "Schuhmacher" on there.....was early hours of the morning after night in casino there - where she won princely sum of ca £20 on the one armed bandit in the foyer and just about broke even at the tables ....

Wildcat, the lady you refer to is Mrs Bucket, and how dare you call 'Keeping Up Appearances' a silly sitcom!! I dunno, some people just don't appreciate good T.V.!!
