Laser diffusers ... cptsideways
Discussion
Declan,
I'm considering getting a new LRC100 or 400 (diffuser).
Something I don't understand and you may know the answers if you don't mind.
You can see from the recent image that the cross hairs of the camera van gun (or whatever) is centred on my bonnet and recorded a speed of 46 mph. Just above those cross hairs on my dashboard is a Snooper Neo S4 which, as you know, is a GPS system. It also has a laser detector, which is useless as we all know, BUT it didn't go off when I was targeted. It seems to me that if the Snooper didn't go off then any diffuser positioned close to my number plate would also not 'protect' me if the bonnet is targeted as in this case.
Am I missing something here or am I correct?
Thanks for any pearls of wisdom ....... (from anyone).

You are quite correct. It's a lot to do with distance from the laser, the beam is very narrow especially at close range (100m I see) & it will be picking up diffraction off of dust & reflections. Most of the behind the glass laser detectors are fairly lax especially at a close range of 2-300ft . Some
types don't even work if you point the laser right at them!
Having tested most of the varieties of countermeasures I'd opt for the dual head versions where possible.
I've found when in closer range eg local speeds (as opposed to motorway at long range) I found the LRC needs an aim almost directly at it to set it off, so unless it's near your number plate where they usually aim it's a bit iffy, I gather your car may be silver? in which case they don't need to aim at your reflective number plate, your car is reflective enough. With the Snooper twin head countermeasure unit you can target most of the car & your still safe, as it seems to see the lasers diffraction much better.
Pssst don't buy a silver car!

A cop pointed his laser at me when I was doing 25 in a 30......why?
He also managed to set of my Bel 980 which shouted "Laser Alert"
Dunno where he was aiming and; boo hoo, my car is silver...........

Seems you are all willing to purchase devices to allow you to purposefully exceed the speed limit.
Well done all.
I don't think that's the point. It's a bit more complex than that.
It's just that one may be taxed (fined) for exceeding an artifically low speed limit while travelling at a perfectly suitable speed for the conditions at that particular time.
Such a device allows a driver to concentrate more on their quality of driving which means, among other things, travelling at a speed suitable for the conditions at that time.
There are many benefits to this, one significant one being that the driver is able to stay alert as they are not driving at too slow and frustrating a speed.
Look at the recent case of the senior police officer who was caught at 104mph and said that he was travelling at a suitable speed for the conditions. No problem there, except that he was in court because he exceeded an obviously stupid limit.

SLD 920X is what I'd suggest
Many thanks again Declan. On your advice I'll go for that - best price I can find is £275.99 which is more than acceptable. Now going to work out how I can attach to rear of grille with connectors so that I can quickly release grille with diffusers attached and replace with a 'stand-by' grille in case of being zapped.
AND james_j ............ you are 100% correct in what you say.

Got one also - fully recommend it.
