Driving on "European" plates

How good are the DVLA and BIB at tracing number plates back to other countries - eg Italy?

Just for "light" not stooopid speeding?

Apparently very good - I recently read that a snowmobile in Sweden was ticketed for speeding in the Midlands!

Or indeed by creating offences by using foreign plates!

I recently spent two weeks in the UK on Hungarian plates, no NIPs yet.
