A friend of mine (genuinely not me ) just sent me this:

So, on Friday night, I thought, why not take my car out for a wee spin at 11pm at night, the roads are nice and quiet…

Joined the motorway heading towards the airport. A car flashes me nicely, letting me merge in, it’s a tricky bit there, the slip road doesn’t have a shoulder, so it was nice of them…

The speed limit is 60, and there is a car in front of me, so I just do that speed.

As you pass the airport, there is an exit towards a nice and quiet road, the speed limit at the exit is 50 (apparently!). the car in front pulled away at the airport junction, so I’ve got a free run at this point. So, I nicely accelerate towards the 100, just thinking in my mind, no I don’t want to break the 100, just in case, u never know… I fly over this exit, and join the A??? something road with a national speed limit sign. At this point I see they nice police lights flashing in my rear mirror. So I pull over.

Basically, they got me at an average speed of 93.something over 0.4 mile stretch. The really annoying thing is that they were the people who let me on the motorway when I joined. Because I have this “auto-dimming” mirror, I can’t see the car at night, just a couple of lights…

They had a chance to book me in three different speed limits, 60, 50 and 70, and they chose to book me in the 50 limit, which means they couldn’t give me a ticket on the spot because the speed was so high, they have to refer to Procurator Fiscal… ooohhh…

Apart from needing a good slap for not noticing the marked car which let him merge (he should've known - too polite to be a normal nupty), whaddaya think he'll get?

Most likely a fine and a short ban.
If he contests it and the officers are obliged to give evidence, they may well tell of his anticedent behaviour in the previous limits which will not go down well with the court!

He's going to be 'walkies' or, what thousands are now doing - driving whilst disqualified - if he needs to drive in order to work.

If they had your mate speeding in the 50, why did they wait before stopping him? Probabaly to see if he did anything seriously wrong which they could get him for instead.

My brother in law was caught at 75 in a 40 ( dual carriageway, 3.00 am etc) and was given a 1 month ban, £400 fine and no points on his licence.

If they are already doing him for 94 in a 50, would doing the same speed in a 60/70 be separate offences?

sounds like just past glasgow airport, heading towards linwood... but i could be wrong!

my dad was racing an unmarked type-r sometime last year in a 60 (single carriageway) - they pulled him for 86 average, gave him 4 points, £300 fine and a trip to court.

Was glasgow area, he didn't specify where exactly but that would be my guess. He's coming round to the idea that it was a fair cop - at least it wasn't a scamera.
