Think its about time I got myself a speed, sorry - accident blackspot detector !

I had a quick gander on the net at a few but wondered if they're are any particular recommendations for the set up I want. Requirements as follows :

Must do all fixed locations
Must do all radar and laser mobile devices
Must be easy to swap between vehicles
Must be easy to get updates through for new fixed locations.

On the update issue - how do most work ? USB on a pc, direct to a phone line ?

Finally, at present the car I drive has a heated windscreen - I've been told that these can interfere with some detection systems - is this true ? If so, can I get an external antenna ?

Any info appreciated,

Hi ya - I've got the origin B 2 and it's superb. With the exception of the radar detection (it was imminently available when I bought the OB2 but not sure if it's available yet??) it does everything you want, and allows you to fit a laser diffuser too.

The updates are via a serial connection to your PC with an internet connection, or you can do it directly through a phone line.

I've got mine plumbed into both my Boxster and my Peugeot....you buy an extra fitting kit for £100. Doddle to fit.

Re the heated screen, it will apparently stop the GPS receiver working. Apparently you should mount it in the rear window instead (the supplied cabling is long enough). Presumably though, you won't be able to use the heated rear screen. Not sure about this.

I've got the Origin b2 and am pretty impressed with it.

Pretty pissed off when it told me that I had been lasered at 75 in a 60 last December but, ho hum, what can a guy do?

happy with it though...

ok, this is what I have installed.

Origin B2 which is GPS based. I have also added the optional laser jammer to my unit. The jammer is the LRC100 and it is VERY effective.

I can only say this, buy the B2, it is as good, if not better than most of the other GPS based systems. Updates are via your PC and the database is excellent. A camera was recnetly installed in my home town, 3 days later it was on the database - impressive.

If you add the laser jammer, you have to buy an adaptor cable from Origin (£15 + delivery) but adding this is worth every penny. it has saved me over 10 times since I installed it.

The only thing the B2 is missing is a radar detector, as stated above it has been promised by origin for over a year, and last time I spoke to them they were debating if they were even going to put it into production. I decided to add a speed cheetah radar detector to compliment my B2 kit.

Also Origin seem like a decent company with good customer service. I have a B2 with 2 car kits so I can move the head unit between cars, in both of them I was getting spurious laser alerts.

I emailed origin with the problem and they popped 2 ferrite collars in the post as they said engine noise was the likely culprit. All good so far.

I had one of there clocks once, you know the all singing all dancing thing that lets you know when there is going to be an earthquake within the next decade and a barometer Oh and keeps precise time within a nanosecond.

Fecking thing broke within a week.
