Unmarked Golf R on A24: Caught at 97mph
Discussion
I got collard by an unmarked Golf R at 11.00am yesterday on the A24 and just wondered what I should expect in way of points and find if anyone can shed some light?
It has been refered to court as I was 1mph above the normal heres a ticket sir tollerance.
I have had a look and there seems to be massive variances.

No way to predict tbh. Depends on what charge they try to go for, how much you spunk on a lawyer and whether the judge has a personal agenda against speeders. It has been refered to court as I was 1mph above the normal heres a ticket sir tollerance.

My mate got done at 120+ on the motorway a while back. Book thrown at him, hefty fine and year's ban. Similar levels of speed over the limit around the same time reported in the media got as little as 2 month ban and £500 fine.
Motoring offences outside the fixed penalty window are extremely unpredictable.
I was on the A24 yesterday at that time. (Brighton to Gatwick)
That stretch has been full of unmarked cars and Scameras for a while now.
Our Sussex group regularly reports new unmarked cars.
With that and the 40mph Roadworks I just sit at 70/75 now.
Hope the OP's outcome is not too bad.

I think we need more information, the A24 is a series of relatively short 70mph sections interupted by sections of 50, 60 mph and cameras. To get to 97 shows intention even in a 70mph section, but was this also in a 50 or 60 section? It has been refered to court as I was 1mph above the normal heres a ticket sir tollerance.

If you know the A24 its the section going north from the McDonalds lights. I had come out from Cowfold direction and had lined up on the front row of the grid/lights!! It so lends itself to a drag race. Matey next to me went off at a lick and I gunned it past him. I hadnt noticed plod was sat behind oppostion and think he would have gone for him had I not blasted off quickest.
He informed me it is a 70mph section.

Would strongly not recommend that terminology when pleading your case in court He informed me it is a 70mph section.

I did rather stupidly say and then quickly retract when he asked why I had blasted off I responded with " i was just blowing away the cobwebs and also that I spotted the R and thought you wanted to race"!! Oops but it wasnt taken down.

well the first few hundred yards is 50mph from the lights, followed by a short 70mph section to a roundabout. So to get to 97 actual you were pushing it. With the poor road surface I've seen numerous cars in hedges or missing the roundabout over the years. How far did you get before you were stopped? He informed me it is a 70mph section.
I spotted it was plod after hitting 97 and eased off. Its not that I gunned it all the way and I went back to 70. When I dropped to 70 and he didnt move past it confirmed that it was plod.
He pulled in front just by the second roundabout and took me into the services.

Fail upon fail! All academic now but I wonder whether, had your response been different and NOT included that ridiculously-stupid own-head-in-noose comment, your ticket might have been for 96mph, 3 points and £60!emicen said:

Cappo, there was no amount of groveling that was going to get me off or knocked down. As its all recorded on the system they had no option but to carry through at 97.

Plod could have written it up for whatever they wanted. At most, all that is "in the system" would be plod's own speed. Their speed does not necessarily equal your speed. I think you talked yourself into a court appearance. CAPP0 said:

Creampuff`s probably right.
This is what I asked. far too much told you so going on. All I wanted was a steer as to what the fine may be.
