It summarises what you have suspected; to save lives we need more Streetcops and less Speedcameras.

Yes, but interestingly, we have had no direct challenges to this information of any sort from the one or two speed camera / speed control advocates who occasionally frequent this site.

Perhaps the direct link above may make it easier for them.

Thanks for the vote mate..

I certainly think reliance on cameras is a problem and needs addressing. However, I think that is now happening with the increase in Trafpol numbers...

I do think that cameras serve their purpose, near schools etc. An example of a perfectly placed camera is about a mile from my home. It's just on the brow of a hill and 100yds past the camera is a junction on the left. Prior to the cameras installation, getting out of the said junction was a nightmare and every approaching vehicle was well over the 30mph limit. Nowadays..it's a piece of cake..Also accidents and this one time 'blackspot' are virtually unheard of.

So they do work...occasionally..

I don't deny that they mostly work where they are sited, but something is responsible for an overall levelling and now increase in road deaths - if it is a change in driver attitude brought on by camera policy then the localised benefits are not worth having.

I am sure its also been quoted before. "Underpants found to be a major factor in road deaths - 99% of all people killed in car crashes were wearing underpants" OK a daft analogy, but while most reckless drivers probably speed, not all speeders are reckless (but all break the law of course).

Mmmm. Must admit certain associated of mine relish the prospect of less police, and more cameras. Cameras on their own do not preclude wheelies & stoppies. Or 0-60-30 in 5 seconds around town.
Tricky one, in some ways we have never had it so easy to speed or be a menace to society. On the other hand, standard are dropping, and journey times are increasing.

Strange paradox. More laws = less freedom, but less Police = Anarchy???

You are spot on Mr(or Ms) Biker; with a GPS unit and local knowledge the current set up is a licence to do what you like. Luckily, no one who actually controls this system will actually give a fig what gets said here, so it won't matter either way!! (I really wonder why we all bother commenting at all)
