DRIVER KILLED TWO WHILE SENDING TEXT

A woman has been jailed for 30 months for killing two policemen while driving at more than 100 mph.

Angela Schala-Breme was sending a mobile phone text message at the time of the crash in France.

The 33-year-old Swiss was five months pregnant and had two young children in the car with her.

The court Schala-Breme had been following friends but lost sight of them.

She had been trying to find them using text messages when her vehicle hit a police van, killing two officers and wounding two others.

The 30-month sentence was longer than prosecutors in the eastern town of Thonon-les-Bains had requested.

The court ignored a plea from widow of one of the dead policemen.

Laurence Haignere, had asked for Schala-Breme to be spared prison because that "would only deprive children of their mother."

The court cited testimony from expert witnesses who said the defendant suffered from "immaturity" and "abandonment anxiety."

Schala-Breme expressed regret for the crash and vowed "to never drive again."

Txting while driving is as bad as DUI, it is SO distracting.

The problem is, that there are lots of people out there who should never start driving in the first place. Pity some only realise it when they have to take responsability for their numptyism

Make driving licences harder to get for aspirants, more responsability to the individual and less rules for all.

Dreadful incident....

Wasted lives over the urgency of someones trivial message sending...

Shocking and upsetting...

Amen to that Street. And as often happens children caught in the middle, one of them unborn.
When are we going to learn?

Saw a couple of texters on my way home this evening......typical, I wasn't at work....

Having said that...I did issue a fixed penalty to a driver using his phone today...

Also, 3 points and £60 fine to a bloke who parked his car on the zig zags of a zebra crossing, making it impossible for approaching drivers to see whether anyone was crossing the road! Reason? He was returning a porn video to the Private Shop!!!

Thanks, Supraman, thanks.

This is in truth, about the third post in three years that has shaken me up.

About six months ago I undertook some whilst on my scooter, I looked across to deliver "a really hard stare", and saw that he/she was actually texting someone, the c*nt.

I thought about posting at the time, but assumed it was an isolated incident.

Caught texting ? 12mths jail. Minimum.
Have an RTA ? Cell phone records should be supoeaned.
Cause someone's death ? Charge of murder.

I wish, but don't hold out much hope, that within the next 5yrs, legislation will force car manufacturers to incorporate cell phone blocking technology in cars.

There was this article in the Times about blocking cell phones.

I'd provide a link but due the ISP currently connected Timesonline demands a fee for me to login to an account which is free from UK. ho hum.

Article title was Mobile phones in a bit of a jam.

Anyway gist of it was some geezer is selling cell phone jammers like hot cakes to hotels so they can instal them in the rooms. Apparently takings from in room phones have dropped 75% since people wave two fingers at the hotels exorbitant charges and use mobiles.

Hence the cell phone jammers to force you to use their phones.

Apparently jamming of radio transmissions is illegal in UK but its not illegal to sell them in UK.

I can think of a few places I'd like to operate a jammer. Will be very tempted once phones are allowed to be operated on commercial flights. Let's face it this is about the last place one is incommunicado from incoming, and you don't have to listen to some pr@/pr@ess blabbing on about beggar all.

Grrrr! I turn my phone off when driving/riding. There is no reason to have it switched on, let alone send texts. Number of phoning/texting twats you see when out on a bike will amaze you car drivers. I overtake several hundred cars a day, and there is ALWAYS atleast 5% on the phone. Shame I'm not BiB, or I'd nick 'em.

Well I never knew that. Thats terrible. Must be some sort of technicality you could find? Being in possession of an offensive child?
