The best place to spend cash is where the people whose money it is want it spent.

Democracy. The public voice.

Sodding annoying though.

Mr Griss said there had only been one "slight collision" in the past five years in Middleton, within the 40mph limit.
Then the whole thing is absolutely frigging ridiculous and I'm disappointed it was even allowed by legislation.

If the Old Bill objected to it then they are hardly likely to use any resources policing it.
Which means it will not be enforced except, perhaps, by the local 'Speedwatch Vigilantes' (powerless prats!).

Triple or quits is going to become a feasible game soon, then.

Pity motorists don't count as the public.

It's always the same from the anti car lobby.

'It isn't us who want this restriction, it's Society, and the interests of Society are more important than yours.'

'How do we find out what Society wants?'

'That's not a problem, we have a unique insight into what Society wants so just do what we say.'

Unfortunately this will make it a prime enforcement/self-justification/revenue generation area for the local SCP...

Since when were the WI the voice of the public?
My mum knows as much about roads, traffic and driving as I do about making jam.

It's the same with so many things. Rat runs. Give the public a choice of something that will 100% cure the problem and they don't want it due to some minor inconvenience. Tell them that the access only option they have asked for will not be enforced and you are accused of being the most corrupt person who decides which law to be obeyed and which not.

Prediction is that WI woman will have 6 points inside the year.

The main dual carriageway past where I work was reduced from 70 mph to 50 mph along a large section at the insistance of locals and councillers from a village that sits on one side of the road. Apparently people were having trouble crossing the road. The fact that there is an under pass that provides safe crossing 200 meters away seemed to be ignored. The Police said it would make no difference and opposed it. They went ahead anyway.
I have never seen the 50 mph section being Policed.

It seems public pressure can get things changed even if there is no evidence that it will provide any real benefit.

And how does it cost £12k to implement?!?! Surely the only change is to a couple of signs?!

Complete waste of money, they could've bought a decent second hand S4 for that smile

Do they mean the collision occurred within the confines of the 40mph limit, or that the vehicle was travelling below the 40mph limit? If the first and not the second this really is a waste of money and effort.

That definitely read to me that the accident occured at speeds below 40mph. Anti-car lobbies love making speeding very clear whenever it's involved.

I read it that it occurred within the section subject to the 40 limit and the comment on the lack of severity implied a minor incident.

The lower limit will do nothing other than ensure some locals will aquire points and lead to the comments "But we didn't mean for you to catch us ossifer. "

I very much doubt changing a sign is the only thing they need to do.

I'm struggling to think of anything else that might be needed here; give us a clue?

I dunno but I am sure there will be much paperwork.

Haven't people tried to challenge road signs and road markings on the basis that they were not implemented properly?

I daresay there will be lots of paperwork required to make the change legally valid - infact just changing the flipping sign will probably be one of the simplest parts of the entire job.
