Stunned to receive a £ 50 fine (charge) for stopping to buy a coffee at a Texaco service station - helpfully I'd parked on the edge of the forecourt to avoid blocking the pumps. The fine was sent by some dodgy outfit, am amazed that a) Texaco encourage such practice and b) that it's legal - I feel mugged.

I appealed - to the same dodgy outfit - and "lost" the appeal. I'm not going down the independent route, otherwise the charge doubles, which feels like blackmail, and its not worth the extratime & stress.

But please pass the word around & boycott Texaco.

It really irritates me how your "appeal" to the same body issuing the fine.
They are judge and jury, with their own interest at heart.

Sad to hear this!

I'm confused - why can't you park on the edge of the forecourt?

I assume you mean on the adjacent bit where the tankers go? Were there signs?

Might be too late but you do realise if it's a 'dodgy notice', issued by a company that ends in 'solutions' or 'parking management' etc, chances are you don't need to pay it.

This might be of some help http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/private-p... plus there are loads of threads on here about this sort of thing.

Have you spoken to Texaco? Are you certain they're authorised to ticket there? Signs? What is the ticket titled (Parking Charge Notice / Penalty Charge Notice / other)?

I would also suggest don't pay although the information above would be helpful to offer advice.

As above, talk to Texaco because what happened is clearly a scam or at the very least unlawful.

As said above. You have no legal reason to pay. Do not pay. Any private parking fines are not enforceable. Ignore. (Only council fines are enforceable) do a google search and you will soon be happy!

You do realise you don't have to pay it, don't you? A bit like when Asda try it on in their car parks etc? Unless it's a council parking fine, just file it in the bin.

Just send half of the fine to me and pocket the rest yourself.

It's a win-win situation! wink

Buzzfan,
Unless it it a council or police ticket ignore it, but keep all the paperwork. These companies make obscene profits on idiots ( hopefully not you) who just pay up.
It is a speculative invoice, nothing more nothing less.
As earlier posts have said go to MSE or pepipoo.com and check out the countless threads on there above these ex clampers.
99.999% of the tme after the blustering letters charge doubles, send the debt collectors, note NOT baliffs, etc mention copurt, but never go through with it, they then grovell and ask for half the original.IF you have money to throw away then carry on. Just have thebals to igonre them.
If in doubt as i said go to pepipoo.com

I hopre you have now seen the light.

Come to Dereham in Norfolk. There is ONE STOP SHOP owned by tesco its in dispute with the landlord over parking and over 500 'fines' have been issued in the last few weeks.
http://www.derehamtimes.co.uk/news/parking_dispute...
Misread that thought the original op was talking about a tesco's.

This is an "invoice" NOT a fine.

IGNORE, but keep any correspondence, just put the phone down and leave it off the hook for five minutes if ANYONE rings about this.

Do not enter into ANY discussion with them, offering them £5 is admitting you accept you are at fault.

If it was a local authority they do have power to take you to court.

However, if you were parked over the hatched area where the fuel tankers fill their load into (underground tanks), I have a certain amount of sympathy with them.
