Not sure if its the right area but I'm to scared to post in one of the other places. Just wanted to see how much you more "mature" men and women are paying and what car thats on. Just about to get my renewed and its looking at:
For a 19 year old with 1 years NCB, clean license and Pass Plus for a 1.2 16v 53 reg Clio.
Around about £1500

Things for 1 year's NCB.
You're going to get hammered every time unfortunately. Try increasing your voluntary excess - this can sometimes bring the premium down. And make sure you know what you're getting for your premium - some offer leagl cover, recovery etc, so it is worth shopping around.
Mine is 1997 V70 2.5T. 15(ish) years' NCB, kept off road. £300ish fully comp.

Already got a fair bit thrown in like AA cover and the like when my dad helped me haggle the car (he's a born salesman)
The Pass Plus helped a bit but to be honest at my age and sex its almost like they simply dont want you to drive. Car I've just bought I only bought because it came with a years free insurance, at the time worth 2k, and I'm now considering swapping it for a Corsa which has a years free insurance.
Would never drive without insurance, would have the keys taken straight away from me if I tried. Drivings a privilege not a right and all that.
Seems weird that when I tried to get a quote for a 1.4 Clio they basically laughed in my face and told me to wait a year, yet all day today I've been driving around in a 2.5ltr with no problems. Company insurance is great.

modified 1984 bmw e30 323 - ...policy price = £290 fully comp - this is the one i use my n.c.b on.
original 1982 ford cortina 2.0 ghia - policy price = £250 (car valued at 2k,9000ml limit,fully comp,stereo cover (up-to 1k),windscreen and full breakdown cover plus other stuff too) - lancaster insurance services - classic car policy (you dont get any n.c.b on this one,just a set price)
im 31,live in westcliff,essex (a mile outside southend) and both the cortina and the bmw are garaged.

I'm afraid it is your age and inexperience as far as ins. is concerned. I am 43 and pay £166 Comp for a '94 1.4 Golf, and £245 TPF&T for a '99 Honda Fireblade. I can however, remember paying £350 in 1980 when I was 20 for a 3 Litre S JPS Capri. Even small cars were expensive. Generally your ins. comes down when you are over mid 20's say 25, and continues to drop if you build up NCB. I have not had a claim since 1979 on car and have 2 years NCB on my bike. Patience I'm afraid, and dont bother trying to insure anything other than slowboats until you have a few years ( at least) NCB.

Thing is, with insurance policies costing more than the value of the car (for new drivers), it is almost understandable why many choose not to insure, so starting a habit of a lifetime?
The rocketing cost of insurance is due to the increasing prevalence and reliance of scameras and the adoption of the compensation culture. Now that the fatality rate has actually increased, premiums are going be rise further.
The system is not working!

Now 27, drive a more sensible motor - Saab 9.5 Aero HOT, and it costs me...nothing at all. Company car insurance - MAGIC!
Best of luck though. Best advice I can give is stay claim free, then when you hit 25 and premiums start to fall, you'll be able to insure a TVR, while your buddies will still be paying £1,000's for their golfs.

I pay £750ish for the 94 Esprit S4, garaged 6000 miles pa in Bristol obviously as a second car. My dad recently looked in to getting a Smart car, for the standard smart i have his insurance was around £150, the Smart he looked to but had a Brabus centre exhaust, they doubled the quote to £300! Hes 58, HGV 1 driver driving an artic all over the country every day & they doubled the insurance on a Smart because of the 'sport' exhaust! Avvin a giraffe!

You will find that classic cars can be quite cheap to insure, and can be quite rewarding in terms of being a good starting point to learning lots of practical things about cars.

Both include breakdown cover.
Boufy, the Saab 9.5 Aero is what I have been driving around in recently for work. I work at one of the Saab dealerships in the London area. Just hoping that I keep a clean license and no accidents to keep the price down.
