A mate of mine got tugged and cautioned for not carrying a driving licence, even though the copper admitted that he never carried his either. I always carry mine, but have also been advised not to hand it over to the cops even if you do have it - just wait and see if a producer is issued. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Cheers,

Bill

I got stopped at an extra-legal speed, the fact that I could hand over my photocard license and it matched their vehicle search details SIGNIFICANTLY helped in them letting me off.....carry it with you for this reason, it indicates to the plod that you are genuine and have nothing to hide.

My advice when stopped - roll over and play the good puppy and you stand a chance, anything else like asking them if they carry their license is definitely going to encourage a ticket!
