Road Angel - No good with Prolaser
Discussion
Stopped a guy for speeding today on the M1. We were using a Prolaser 2 on vehicles that were going away from us.
When i spoke to this guy he said that he was surprised that his 'device' had not warned him. I looked inside and saw a Road Angel sitting on his dashboard.
If he thought that it would work then im sure that there are others out there relying on them.........be careful

Just as an aside, what kind of punishment is he likely to receive for that kind of speed??...
depends on magistrate, solicitor and mitigation
I got nabbed slightly over that speed a few years ago on the M23, 8 week ban and £600 fine
Are you listening Nonners..........

Not that suprising if you were targetting the back of the car - if it was a RA1 with optional laser detector it only works forward, if it was RA2 then you'd have to be charmed for it to work out you targetting the rear....
J
No they don't :cough:
I have also had the chance to test a few, use it as a golf ball instead.
Just as joust said, if it was a classic RA with the laser detector hanging from the front screen, the driver will have had to be a long way past the beam for it to reach the front, through the back, although they are advertised as having front and rear laser detection with only one detector. Best plan, the setup I have, is to daisy chain another one hanging from the rear screen to the one on the front, works for me.
Not sure if SpeedCop should have replied with a HaHa!!
Where on the M1 (Junction No.) were you doing this revenue gathering, oops sorry, safety enforcement, so I can make a mental note of it........... and program the location into the RA.
Joking apart, anyone caught at 111 should be tied up and flogged. The Road Angel is designed to make the driver more aware of speed and potentially hazerdous situations. It does not make you invincible or unprosecutable!!
Used correctly, ideally with cruise control, and a little bit of common sense the RA has certainly made me a safer, maybe a bit slower as well, driver.

Anna notherthing, if the guy though that his RA would "Warn" him and he would have time to brake and reduce his speed from 111 to 70 then he is clearly very stupid. Apart from the speed he should be nicked for being stupid. Just like the speeders who are followed for miles by a marked, flashing, noisey, T5 then say "I didn't see you" Should be done for driving without due care and attention as well.
cptsideways, my RA seems to go off and on at all the right moments and if you drive sensibly, with the RA's help, it's always good to know when some trigger happy BiB points his laser thingy at you, keeps us on our toes.
Thankfully the 3 points I had are expired now, but they'll only get me once, hidden scamera van, northants, civvie operator, barstewards. Very bitter and twisted rodent here, used to respect the law but don't start me off on that one, I need to go for a lie down now.

We were parked up on the M1 at the top of the Southbound onslip.
We are in open view but cant be seen by Southbound drivers.
I know that this person was doing a high speed but in his defence, the traffic was light, no inconvienience was caused to other drivers........(sensible head on) and this will all be put in my notes.
However, he was ripping the arse out of the speed limit.
With the use of the Lasers......Police can park up anywhere with a sight of the traffic flow.....all im saying is be careful.
I have to be when off duty too.

I disagree with you here because he couldnt see us (only for a split second in his rear view mirror but by that time it was too late).
It takes a lot on concentration to drive at that speed contrary to popular belief and i would have been more horrified if he was craning his neck backwards.
There were a few people doing well over the ton and because of the traffic flow..thats why our threshold was soooo high.
Many other people were doing mid 90's...but like ive always said, over 100mph is big boys speed with big boys fines. You pay your money and take your chance.
I hope that im getting my point accross that we are VERY fair...wouldnt want to be any other way.
Sadly, as we all know, the Cameras dont have this value.
