Any idea of the offence code for passing a height restriction with an overheight vehicle please? I got caught out at the Blackwall Tunnel on Saturday.

Thanks

Sorry Steve I don't have a list of Offence Codes that covers your question.

As to the offence itself without getting the spade out then I would presume that the offence itself will be contrary to an Order made regarding Traffic regulation of use of Tunnel, similar to Tyne Tunnel.

I'm a long way from you so perhaps a Met Officer can help out.

Anything else comes to mind will advise.

Steve, was the vehicle overheight, or did it just trigger the sensors in the tunnel. My mate got stopped for exactly the same thing. Did the warning lights flash at you on the approach?. I used to deliver to the trading estate on top of the blackwall tunnel, and on the approach to it sometimes it would trigger sometimes it wouldn't. It usually triggered when it was raining for some reason. The reason I ask, is because my mate measured the height, and proved he was below it. I'll see if I can get hold of him and get some more details. From memory the sensors are at a slight left hand bend inside the tunnel as well. Because they are on a bend, they might have caught you when you were trying to keep the nearside wheels away from the kerb as you went round it(they are much lower in the second lane).
Whatever you do, get the truck measured straight away, by someone who would be able to prove that in court. If it's over, you're stuffed mate, although I don't think it's a major fine. If it's under, and you can prove it, I'd say you've got a case to argue particularly if the warning beacons outside the tunnel didn't trigger.
Or was it a fair cop guv...................?
Let us know what happens.

Quick dig with said spade (persisting down outside here) and cannot come up with the specific offence against an Act which makes me believe your infringement is in contravention of a Traffic Order made by LA (Greenwich?) under RT Reg Act 84. Contravention - max fine 1000 notes, no points or disq (under order but possible from another Act.)

Should be some info on your ticket as to law infringed. If RTRA mentioned then its an Order and could be named. You may wish to view to see exactly what it proscribes and exemptions, if any.

Only other bit of law is under Reg 10 MV Con and Use 86 vehicles over 3 meters high should have warning notice in cab of height, with exemptions, and those fitted with High Level Equipment, a warning device if height exceeded.

Steve,

Thats an Endorseable Fixed Penalty/£60 Code TS50/A
according to my little 'aide memoir' in front of me!!

If you want Act/Section/sub para etc... a Trafpol will have to answer that.

Have they got auto sensors for that then?

Thanks for your interest chaps. Full story: Agency job driving rollonoffs (big compactors for the uninitiated which are demountable). They have about 20 skips, only one of which is extra high. Guess who got the extra high one. Heavy traffic going into the tunnel, so missed the first warning sign until I was right alongside it. Clouted the dangly things at the tunnel entrance and took the escape lane immediately after it. At this point you are held by a barrier while your picture is taken remotely.

Obviously I will be prosecuted (fair enough - my mistake), but my concern was that a code of TS50 (my guess as well) will not look good when insurance renewal comes round. What is the worst offence covered by this code?

Incidently, because the vehicle has a demount body, there are no height markers in the cab. I was assured that "you should be OK at the tunnel" and it was my intention to use the dangly things to check. I just didnt realise the consequences.

Steve,

50A is your offence
50B is Auto level crossing(HGV drivers to phone)
50C is NO ENTRY

Others in the TS(Traffic Sign) range are solid white lines/red traffic light/STOP sign etc

so I would guess it shouldn't impact insurance any more than a single speeding conviction...still classes as a minor traffic offence IMO

Best of luck

Thanks - that was my main concern. No problem with the points/fine (guilty as charged m`lud), just the implications.

My apologies I missed the obvious by concentrating on possible Tunnel regs.

Robocop absolutely bang on the target... he should be for he is Firearms. Thanks to him for adding to my education.

Height sign is sign 629.2 in TSG Directions and as such is one that 36 RTA applies in that it is a Traffic sign for purposes of failing to conform/NOIP.

Should have realised. Damnblastandbuggery......
