I have a photocard license and a paper counterpart.

I want to remove my expired points.

I've obtained a D1 Form from the DVLA.

They are asking me to send

Photocard License
Paper Counterpart
Passport
Completed D1 form & Passport size picture
£20

Why do I need to include a new passport size picture in my application form if I just want to remove the endorsements from my paper driving license?

Any ideas?

That's the site I looked at

Maybe I'm filling the form out wrong.

I think I only need to supply a photo if I'm being verified. As I'm supplying the passport I don't need to.

Im not certain, but I suspect that there is a certain ambiguity in the syntax, designed to give the impression that a new licence needs to be applied for. My licence still has three or four years to run, so I can have the alteration made without renewing if I wish.

If youre having to pay then Id supply the picture and save myself £20, get a new 10yr licence and save myself £20 somewhere down the line.

Interesting thread as I have 6 points to get removed

Might get a new license at the same time as not long left on this one

Why the need to remove them, if they are time expired does it matter?

Certain positions require you to be "safety conscious" and therefore points, even if expired are frowned upon!

If you happen to have an address change, then you can get the address changed on the licence free of charge, and you can point out in your covering letter that it would be wrong of them to add the points to the new licence.

I've just renewed my photocard, because it expired. Because I have also just renewed my passport, they allowed me to apply for the new photocard on line, and they automatically used the existing photo I had supplied for the passport. All I had to do was send the expired (cut up) photocard and paper counter part, back to DVLA. The paper counterpart came back avant the (now expired) speeding points clap.

I was just about to say this, I changed address and the new (free of charge) paper license came back without my long expired SP30 on it. You have no obligation to declare expired points to any insurer or employer. Although insurers are cheeky and tend to ask if you've had any penalties in last X years...

Yes, when it comes to points:

3 Years (count for totting up)
4 Years (stay on licence)
5 Years (insurers care about them)

Yes, its the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act which counts, not whether theyre still printed on your licence!

That's fine but when the employer takes a copy of your license they can still see them written on there and it will prejudice the application for a safety conscious role!

If I was an employer I would only employ people who could spell licence.

Then are they not acting in a discriminatory way as the law is the law and they feel they are above that?, I have the old old style pink paper license, and I have a sp30 from early 2010,once out of time law wise its irrelevant as to removing them and I'll not bother sending it off.

also very few employers believe anything on a paper licence, few too many 'spare' licences floating around for due diligence purposes ...

My reply was to Misery Streak who incorrectly stated that when they were off the licence that they neednt be declared.

Suppose you want to hire a car? Might the hire firm get a bit twitchy of you've had convictions and say 9 points in the past?
