Been away a while on a little project. Made me wonder has anybody out there challenged Scameras on the above Act. Still looking into the nitty gritty, but it would appear that unless local authority declares on their freedom on information publication scheme that they will charge for info about accident stats at a scamera site, they should provide this for free. (Exception if cost of compiling data is over £100 but data will already have gone to committee in surveying camera sites, so cost should be minimal.) On this basis, fellow anarchists can write to local authority and safety scameraship and ask for details of how many KSI accidents at each scamera sites and they must now justify themselves. If they don't, the Information Commsioner can compel them to.

Has anybody tried this yet ? Anybody want to ? Quite willing to look at drafting a generic letter and see where we get.

Hi Bob,
contact CEN about this, he's an expert on it and is actually in the middle of having a scameraman charged with failing to provide evidence. Beautiful!!!

The Freedom of Information Act comes into full force on 1st January 2005.

I've already started working on a list of information requests that'll go out on 1st January.

Mornng Street That should be 'only K sites' since KSI is so open to abuse. Listen to the SCAMPs shouting how successful they are when a KSI figure drops - then you look into it and find deaths have risen by 25% or 30% and there have been fewer broken toes. Absolutely wonderful those GATSOs! KSI is one of the biggest cons there is, and not just because of this - somebody must decide what's S and not S (within guidelines but "hey, that's just a guide, like 'guidelines' on where we can put the vans, right?" ), and modern cars prevent injury much better now since EuroNCAP. So, claim that for the camera too. In spite of this we get 100 more road deaths!
Do these people publish lottery numbers, it's Saturday??

Morning Turbobloke...glad you're well...

Our KSI sights are the top and serious ones....there are other roads where people speed and it would be easy to get loads of culprits on a camera, but our gaffers wont let us...

So I suppose, we/they are doing something right or proper? For once, in some people's opinion.

Regards,

Street

Ahh. You might know something I don't.

As far as getting information out of officials is concerned, I thought we had some toothless freedom of information policies running, but no law until the 1st Jan.

I did try a request to the DfT under their freedom of information policy, but I was ignored. Perhaps I didn't chase hard enough...

I do know that many organisations are gearing up for the full Freedom of Information Act, and I've heard that some of the provisions started at earleir dates - but I'm not sure what those provisions are.

Can you tell me anything?
