Hi All

Been heading roung toward Heathrow area from Kent alot lately, clockwise round bottom half of m25

I noticed a few times now, just passed the junction for Gatwick, above the road you have signs, used to be used for varying speed limited I think but these days rarely on, so they extend right across the cariageway and have signs for each lane.

I noticed there are what appear to be cameras above each one, each lane. I have seen on two separate occasions now somebody being flashed by one.

Each time, every lane of traffic has been moving fairly "steady" shall we say, so I am not sure they are speed cameras

Anyone know or seen this?

No lines on road for calibration/verification?

Cheers

i think so but at same time they are above the steel structures that extend across the road so the angle / distance it tight

but like I said if they were speed cameras they would have been flashing everyone, which is what is confusing me - unless they are pot-shotting randomly?

I have been told that they are part time cameras and only get turned on with the variable speed limit.
That may not be fact.

They're speed cameras but they don't work - I've been flashed several times both inside and outside of a variable limit and I've heard nothing. Out of all the housings on the gantrees, only around 4-5 on the southbound section actually have cameras in them

I have also seen them flash up around junction 8-9 is (roughly) and seen several flash on the m1 just before the m25 heading south.

Posting here was the general consensus of they flash but don't do much else... I'm still relatively warey of them though,

Bleddy cameras do work.... I've just received a ticket for between junction 8-9 on m25. Was restricted to 50 and I was clicked at 64mph,

proof that they do work when the gantry signs are working then, eek
in the past I have been through them above the speed that they shoe=w but may have been under the cut off point?

Yes they do work, yes they work when the variable limit is shown, yes they do work when no variable limit is shown, no not every gantry has cameras (very few infact) some do all lanes some only do specific lanes.

I keep it under 90 if no variable limit is shown. Never been issued a ticket (in my life in fact!). I'm not a frequent user of the M25 though (thankfully!).

There is one gantry between 8-9 that has newish looking cameras (digital I assume). Same on the other side but slightly different location.

The cameras clockwise between j8-9 also work when there isn't a variable speed limit. I got caught last week at 85.

Interesting - that's the slowest speed I've seen anyone caught at with no VSL active. Have you got a copy of the NIP?

I was flashed last month while doing somewhere around an indicated 100. Never got a ticket. The camera was somewhere after Heathrow heading towards the A23. Guess I was lucky, but so tempting when you've been in a queue of traffic doing 60 and then out of nowhere it suddenly clears up and everyone boots it.

Oops, I only had a worrying two week wait. What did you end up with?

I did actually get "words of advice" smile in fact there were 3 of us in convoy to a job, all similar speeds, 2 were singled out frown
Everything is scrutinised at the moment, 1 camera activation now creates a lot of paperwork
