ASAP - Solicitor wanted for Drink drive guidance
Discussion
Hi guys, the flatmate of one of my staff got caught DD last night and got placed in paddington green's cells for the night. I think he needs the advice of a motoring solicitor as soon as possible. (Yes, I do think he is an idiot for doing this, but am just trying to help out - before the thread starts on a DD crucifiction!)
Can anyone recommend, or has experience of a suitable solicitor, in the london area?
If you would be kind enough to contact me through my PH profile, I'll pass on your recommendations.
Thanks in advance.

I did rack my brains and look at a couple of sites but no such solicitors sprang up. TBH though i dont know that trying to find such a solicitor will be worth it unless there are some pretty exceptional circumstances. I think your friend will be looking at a long ban and points whatever brief he has, so it may be that his time is spent more expediently trying to think of how hes going to get about for the 365 days after his trial, rather than hoping for a miracle.
Street cop,
Thanks for your informed opinion on this. Much appreciated. I wasn't seeking sympathy on anyone's behalf, merely trying to help someone out.
I am aware that this guy will get a ban, however, he had a conviction in Australia around 10 years ago, so whether the magistrates deem a short custodial sentence necessary or not was my concern.
A good solicitor MAY be able to reduce this possibility to a driving ban. The guy is going to have a UK criminal record either way.
For those who've never been to a cat A prison (where you typically go before being placed somewhere more suitable), they are not funny places - even for 7 days.
Anyway, thanks for the sensible advice. At least I wasn't requesting something serious like what people thought of an incorretly issued parking ticket.... (which would prob generate more inane replies).
And no, I haven't got my head wedged up my arse, but thought that people may be able to see past the end of their keyboards on this one!
Cheers

what was his reading on the intoximeter? you would have to be well over for a spell inside! or involved in an accident or something!
the best approach is to dress smartly in court, speak for himself and apologise/grovel to the magistrates, dont bother with a solicitor! keep the money for the fine!

Have not much sympathy - assume the Australian conviction for drink driving too?
Doubt he will go to jail for this - possible but not that likely that the previous of 10 years ago down under would increase the ban either as quite well in past to certain extent - according to Wildy's Beagle cousin.
Chap I know of was banned for 12 months after colliding with vehicle on return from cricket club and found to be above limit. He ws unlucky - he hit a cop car
Two years after getting his licence back - he got done again - on return from same cricket club -. He did not hit anything but stopped his car a little too sharpish at traffic lights and ovrshot the white line by his front wheels - and cop car was in left hand filter......
This earned him a two year ban and a course on drink driving.... So - with bit of luck and lot of grovelling - he may even be seriously lucky and get 9 month ban and a driving course or test before he can drive again....depends on the Mag though...
Like said - not much sympathy - but that could be what your mate is looking at in real terms.
You could always try the CAB or look at yellow pages for freeby Saturday morning advice clinics or "free half hour practices". Beagle is in S Wales and knows couple of practices there which run these - and have a motoring expert on duty most Saturdays.
Better tell him that being drunk in charge of a push bike is also an offence though
cheers chaps and chap-esses,
He was about 3 times over from what i've heard so far, and was taking his g/f home on the back of a scooter in central london at 4am. Not big and certainly not clever.
Not just a case of 3 pints of bitter I think. I think it was 2.5 bottles of wine.
Idiotic if you ask me. Just glad no-one was injured or any innocents involved.
PS yes, the aussie conviction was also DD....

3 times over will mean he is a "High Risk Offender", which will require a medical prior to return of driving license.
I would expect he will get a ban of at least 24 months or more (perhaps as little as 18 when combined with a rehabilitation course), and a possibility of community service.

He got himself pickled into this pickle...He'll have to get himself out of it...
Thankfully he didn't make someone a widow/widower/orphan by his selfish act...
I think the amount of negative replies from non-BiB on this thread also means something...
3 times over the limit isn't a slip up..it's not a "Oops that Shandy was strong" or .."I've not eaten much today"...its more.."I'm pissed..I dont give a shit..I'm not having a taxi...I'm driving..."
I don't suppose you'll post the guys sentence on here..but lets hope it's severe...
Street
This is not meant to be aimed at you personally in the slightest and i'm sorry if it comes across like that. The venom is directed at the 'driver'
Yikes. That sounds like a new level of stupidity. I really dont see how a solicitor is going to help when someone is making such a huge effort to be put behind bars.
What do solicitors do in these cases anyway? yes my client was drunk. because err. he likes getting drunk. a lot. Cheque please.

I was Officer in Case for an offence recently where driver was 3.5x over limit, no collision/injury involved.
He got 3 year ban, extended retest at end of ban, £1,500 fine and about £400 costs.
He did plead not guilty though (against the advice of his Barrister).
I'd be VERY surprised if the moped rider went to gaol.
