I know this is trivial but I'm posting it anyway!!

My son has bought me some blue LED'ed washer jets for my Dark Blue Mondeo. As these project a teeny weeny blue light forwards some smart alec suggested I might be breaking the law by fitting them.

Something about only emergency vehicles can use blue lights.

Can I be done for this, whats the penalty and where on the scale does it land, murder, which is ok, or speeding, which is very bad.

The penalty is, he'll look like a twat. (and it's technically illegal, but I've never heard anyone get done for it)

Revenge! De-Chav him! Get him a tweed jacket with brown leather elbow patches.

And yes, I heard any form of blue light is illegal.

I suggest he waits then.

Or, buy him a nitro RC car and he can modify it to his hearts content.

Yes, blue lights are illegal.
No, you probably won't be stopped for it.
Yes, you will look like a muppet.

Duff advice on this thread so far imo.

:Serious head on:
The blue led washer jets are, sadly I would say, totally legal as long as they do not flash and do not dazzle or cause discomfort to other road users.

:serious head off:

Really like the suggestion that you de-chav him with cloth cap, Harris tweed jacket complete with leather elbow patches.

Tell him that in some quarters such illuminated washer jets are taken as .... errr signals.... between members of the sexually confused community. That'll sort him.

As above they are illegal and you'll look like a twat.

It also gives the police a valid reason for pulling you so I'd get them taken off.

Provided they dont flash then they are Legal as long as they are not in the headlamps or indicators.

They're possibly illegal ie showing light other than white to the front, but these C&U regs were drafted well before these things came into being.

Believe it or not, illuminated blue valve dustcaps become illegal when the wheel is moving, as by definition, so does the dust cap, and it then becomes a rotating blue beacon - the use of which is restricted.

I don't know of any of my colleagues who bother reporting for any of them - it's just not that important in the grand scheme of things.

[Zaphod_Beeblebrox] Hey Dude, I'm so chilled, you could keep a side of beef on me for a month... [/Zaphod_Beeblebrox]

I wasn't suggesting that "33 in a 30" was important in the grand scheme of things, just that blue illuminated washer jets (or Chav lights) are equally/even less so.

Are you not all being a little harsh here.. Personal opinions aside, this is someone whose son has bought him a present thinking his dad would really like them. Chav or not chav and as i have no doubt we have all said once in our lives, 'it is the thought that counts, not the present'. Hamster wasn't asking for a critical analysis of his son, his sons choice in present or even what we thought of the present, had he done that, he would have put it under GG - he just wants the legalisites (Which I think he may now know).

Sorry if this is none of my business but I have just had a shit day and thought this was a little harsh.

Tell him now. Else you might end up with a bootspoiler and Alpine sunstrip for Christmas.

Of course, if you're a Pratchett fan who collects the little figures, you could use them to make Death's eyes light up.
