Bit of a long rant here, but bear with it....

Castle Lane in Bournemouth has just had a complete road re-layout - and I have to say the person that designed the road system must be retarded.

A roundabout has been replaced with extra lanes and lots of traffic lights so we now have 3 lanes immediately merging to 2, after the lights. At the next set of lights the 2 remaining lanes merge into 1 lane - result traffic chaos.

To make things worse there are now 2 bus lanes, yet I can honestly say I cannot remember the last time I saw a bus on Castle Lane, yet I have lived in the area for 17 years.

The second set of lights control's access to/from tesco's store, but the entry/filter lane when turning left into tescos has been shortened and replaced with a small section of bus lane. This means that cars going to tesco's should queue up for the lights with the main traffic (adding to congestion) until the end of the bus lane (no busses spotted, so about as much use as tits on a fish), before turning left when they reach the end of the bus lane.

Quite often traffic is so bad that when the lights turn green the movement of traffic is insignificant, so yet more waiting....

Understandably most people drive in the bus lane. It is utterly ridiculous to expect people to sit in a traffic jam waiting for lights to change, so they can move a few meters forwards before entering the filter lane, when by entering the bus lane for 10 meters, they can get into tescos and reduce some of the congestion.

Now my question....

If I was to commit this minor (IMHO) infringement of the bus lane something I should expect to be prosecuted for????

Nothing new I'm afraid. Sounds like your council's signed up to the "idiots guide to causing congestion" as the 1st step in the process that eventually leads to rolling out the Kengestion charge in your area.

Bristol's been up to this sort of thing for ages, even to the point of applying for and receiving EU grants to reduce congestion and spending them on bus lanes & park & ride schemes that (a) nobody wants and (b) don't work anyway. Top stuff!

Oh, absolutely!!! Who the hell do you think you are criticising the roads department for once again demonstrating total incompetence because you have the common sense to see it?? Jesus or something???
They need to do something during their re-engineering of the roads to detract from their incompetence, so they arrange things so that the motorist can once again be ticketed; hey presto!! an income from re-engineering.
The by-product? Collosal traffic jams, stress and frayed tempers. Oh yeah, and empty lanes with virtually no traffic in them.
Well, you can always get on your bike, or travel in one of our wonderful, high speed buses!!

£30 all over apart from London...

I generated £2340 in bus lane fines in one shift recently..

Thankfully, the council and bus companies were paying the police wages and it was a day off...

Glasgow! Passed the traffic boys (no idea where their car was) who had pulled 5 cars in one go for driving down the bus lane the other day!

Aye....I did the same the other day...cop car parked around the corner and stood on the kerb waiting..

Despite the fact I was in a hi-viz coat and white had, 1 car came down the bus lane and then 2 others pulled out and proceeded to follow.

As I was talking to the driver of the first car and issuing his ticket he protested "What about the other ones that followed me down"..answer "Look in your mirror Sir, their turn is next "...Rather shut him up nicely.

Totally, they're in their own little world! Funniest was car number 5 pulling back into the flow of traffic to try and make a swift getaway, only for plod to step into the road and tell him otherwise!

I was amused yesterday evening, watching a bus trying to get out of the bus lane so he could overtake a huffing & puffing unlit cyclist. (buses & cycles only).
Understandably the motorists were not inclined to make a space for the bus. Shame really it was crammed full with 3 or 4 passengers.

A long stretch of dual carriageway in our local town now has a "invisable bus, lane" reducing it to one lane each way. It's NEVER been known as a accident blackspot and all the buses seem to be fitted with Klingon Cloaking Devices. At rush hour the 2nd lane is now full of nose to tail traffic brought about by the lack of a 1st lane, The number of invisable buses is hard to calculate but I hear that moss as begun to grow on the road surface.

Needless to say,"I will NOT be voting for the demented local councilors whose idea this was or their party MP at the next opportunity. When are we going to realise that we cannot un-invent the car, personal transport is here to stay.

Ampthill Road in Bedford (the A6 from Luton) is currently a scene of chaos as they combine resurfacing it (semi-random scatterings of cones on both sides of the roads and lack of road markings confusing everybody) with putting a bus lane in. Down one side only. Presumably the buses are expected to drive into the town and then dematerialise and beam themselves back out again. Apparently it's in aid of a Park and Ride scheme - there was one of these a few years ago which had to be discontinued due to its amazing popularity. The reduction in width for the bus lane has meant the loss of all the refuges in the centre for people turning right into the side streets, of which there are many, so now all right turners will hold up the entire lane. The whole thing is nuts.

Round our way there are a number of bus lanes that are only in force between certain times Monday to Friday. What never ceases to amaze me is the number of people who outside these times still don't use them & then rant and rave at those of us that do.
Have to agree with Street, some peoples observation skills are sh1te
