Information has to be laid before the court within 6 months, summons can be served after that.

Thanks, saved me the trouble of posting that yet again.

The ECHR has held that "up to two years" is not unreasonable.

In practice, it would appear that summons for speeding and other 'minor' motoring offences are served within the six months to lay an information.

It's basically an application to the courts to initiate proceedings against an accused.

If you tell us a bit about the allegation we can give you a heads up on the likely outcome. You don't have to if you don't want to of course..

I don't think it's that unusual for summons relating to speeding taking up to 6 months.

It's just long enough for the stress and worry to dissipate before a nice present lands on your doorstep.

Ooh that's a big one.

Do you need to be able to drive? You are 10mph off the top of the scale in terms of the court sentencing guidelines.

Guidelines for up to 110 suggest they could consider up to 56 days off the road. So you could be looking at 2 months plus if they are really grumpy with you.

Any points already?

Tell us the date of the alleged offence. They don't normally forget to summons a case involving that sort of speed.

So they have until the 4.11.13 to lay the information at the local court. As others have said it can then take a good while for the summons to come out to you if its a busy court. The magistrates will insist on seeing you because of the high risk of a ban.

I'm surprised it has taken as long as it has. I have to say i think it will arrive any minute now.

Your clean licence will help.

Please tell all more if you want anymore info on the likely outcome - e.g. is it a fair cop...

Ah, a free spirit. Good man, we need more folk like you.

Just tell me though: Were you driving safely, albeit a bit too fast to be legal?

If the honest answer is yes you were driving safely, then I hope you get away with the absolute minimum of punishment.

If, however, you were not driving safely, that's another matter.

Safe speeding should not be a punishable offence in my book.

Others may, of course, take a different view. tongue out

I certainly would not encourage widespread driving at 120mph, I was however driving within the limits of myself and the car-with no other traffic.
