From BBC -

WHEEL CLAMP TERROR
In a case to warm the hearts of motorists everywhere, magistrates successfully turned the power of the Asbo against a rogue wheel clamper.

A 38-year-old public "menace" from Portsmouth was handed the five-year order for "intimidating and harassing" drivers and "causing distress".

Not only was he clamping cars parked on land where he had no licence to operate, but he once impounded a police car. not laughing at what he did but the audacity of actually doing it!!

He was also reported to have tried to clamp two cars as they performed three-point-turns.

He was believed to be one of the first clampers in the UK to be given an Asbo.

Hope he was a big tough bloke.

Someone tried to clamp my car while I was doing a 3 point turn they would have their head removed very quickly...

Out of all the problems relating to cars in England, this has to be the most utterly indefensible, offensive intrusion of privacy I have ever seen.
It is completely beyond me why Parliament hasn't sorted this practice out once and for all.
How can any individual possibly justify making a living out of this, what kind of mentality do they have?
When we had this up here, there were a few cases that ended up in serious violence and it was nowhere near as bad as it is in England.
Write to your MP non stop until they have it banned; nothing short of this is acceptable.

Sorry, maybe I should have added in that any ban on clamping includes the Police as well.
In Glasgow they were one of the worst abusers of the clamping system; on several occasions they actually clamped and removed doctors cars from outside patients houses, uitterly outrageous!!

guys,always wondered this.

What is the law on--- say for example, my friend being clamped and then me for example removing the offending clamp with a blow torch or bolt cutters?

they cannot get him convicted arrested etc can they-as its me removing the clamp--wouldnt it be me whom is committing the offence?

plus as a private firm they cannot force him to pay the fine for illegally parking.

The company is Aquarius Security - the owner received a temporary one a while back and it looks like it's been extended.

Apparently he took a "back seat" in the company and employed a similar gorilla to do his work and guess what? He got an ASBO too!

Prior to that he reversed his clamping truck into a "customer" and was jailed for several months.

isn't that one of the clamps you can get out of by letting your tyres down?
