Ive got a bike on sorn due to expire at the end of this month and can't sorit on dvla website. There's a bit of bumpf at the bottom of one page saying...

"If your vehicle has a SORN which is due to expire, this has now been made indefinite. If you need to tax your vehicle, please use your V5C Registration Certificate (log book) as your tax reminder (V11) has been made invalid by this change"

But i've still been sent the renewal/ reminder document. Now, i don't have a lot of trust in dvla at the best of times and i'm a bit concerned this may be something that bites me in the arse when i finish rebuilding the bike and try to tax it.

Has anyone else got any experience of this changeover so far?

Another similar post was answered recently along the lines of the DVLA printing thousands of the reminders a long way in advance and sending them out in bulk regardless, to save money.

Could always ring and check, but I would say you are fine as it is.

Went to renew a SORN on the day it changed and it said it'd already been automatically done.

I'd imagine the easiest and most painless route to cover yo ass would be to log onto the DVLA's website, try and SORN it again, and see what happens. If it says you don't have to - happy days, take a screen shot of that and save it on your pc just in case of trouble down the line.

If it does let you SORN it then same story - also you can type in an email address and it will email you a confirmation.

Either way, you're now covered are you not?

The DVLA Vehicle Enquiry now shows my SORNed vehicles as "SORN in place" with no Date of Liability. I think it used to show something like "SORN not due" with the date when the next SORN or VED was due.
