My work colleague got caught red handed at the weekend! 96mph on a motorway... I'm not here for any judgmental comments. He was an idiot, got caught, and now he's going to pay the price.

But he's asked me to post on here asking what exactly that price is? I was sure I had heard that a ban was only for 100mph+ is that right? Apparently it says on his letter that the 3 points & £60 thing is only for 10% + 9mph over the limit, but it doesn't say what's next?

Court job?

Cheers.

it may vary from force to force but i believe there is a range where a FPN is applied, I would imagine 96 is right on it

96mph in a 70mph, and I got £60 and 3 points.

But that was years ago and at the side of the road by a human being, that said "You were driving safely, but I just had to stop you at that speed".

He also said "It sounded nice".

Court I expect.

When I was caught (many moons ago) doing 106.6 MPH (3 AM, empty dual carridgeway) I went to court and got 6 points and a £335 fine.

My advise would be don't give it 'I'll lose my jod etc....' as they hear this everyday.

I dressed smartly, but not flash, was humble, said I was sorry, that I'd learnt my lesson and it was a stupid thing to do.

The only time I've been bked for properly ignoring the speed limit was for 96mph on the M1, still incredibly grateful that the policeman let me go without any points/fine etc.

Doesn't help you in anyway, but made me smile thinking about it - amazing what you can get off with if you're polite and don't try to come up with st excuses.

Mine was even longer ago at £40. But more or less the same comment.

Court is for offences over 100MPH in a 70 zone.

I was told by plod that the 96 I got pulled at was right on the limit. I was thankful as he confirmed it was 127.3mph when he switched the Vascar thingy on. Luckily I'd spotted a dark Omega a little behind me and anchored on.

Fair does guys, thanks, have passed on the linked thread to him. It does seem indeed that 96mph is bang on the limit so will be interesting to see how it goes. First ever offence he says, in 20+ years of driving.

First time he's been caught more like. I reckon we all commit at least one offence a day when driving.

Quite possibly. So in that case, those who are lobbying for the automatic, conveyer-belt, remote detection and prosecution of every motoring offence (or even just an appreciable portion) must want every driver to be banned under totting up?
