I'm looking for some advice on how to proceed following terrible service I've received after buying my Porsche Cayenne. I went to see the car at the beginning of November, really liked it, decided I wanted it but there were a few things that needed fixing, air vent and ash tray broken, wheels curbed, large stain on the back seat. I pointed all these out and was assured that when I came to collect the car it would be good as new and all these things sorted.
The following week they said the car was ready so I went to collect it.... so this is where I went wrong, the only thing that had been sorted was the wheels (which did look good as new) but they hadn't sorted anything else out but I still took the car! The salesman said that he had to order the other parts and that we could drop by the following Saturday and they'd sort it all. I paid and I left and on the drive back noticed that they hadn't put the sat nav disc in the car either!.
I called up in the week to check they'd got the parts in and tell them about the sat nav and got told the salesman would call me back, he never did. This happened time and time again and each time I'm having to explain the situation to a different person. So, having been fobbed off several times and never called back I went down there. They didn't have any of the parts and then said that we would need to book the car in to get it sorted but they did have the sat nav disc. A serviceman came round to put it in the car and put it in the cd drive instead of the dvd drive under the drivers seat and couldn't get it out!!! So I left again and was told to ring up on Monday and book the car in to get everything sorted.
So I ring up and the same saga happens again, they say they'll call back, they don't I keep ringing, explaining to different people what the situation is. They then tell me that they can't book me in till January. I can't believe how awful this place is, they do not know the meaning of the word service. So it's booked in, I take it back, having called them several times to remind them I'm coming in, what's needs doing etc. I turn up and they haven't ordered any of the parts, I have to go through everything from the beginning, bearing in mind every time I have been to this place they've left me waiting at least half an hour. I get given a courtesy car, a vw golf, which is covered in mud inside and out and has no petrol. I'm angry. The guy fills the car up after I remind him of the amount of petrol I have wasted driving to and from this place. Ok I'm going on a bit now but the issues continues. When I go to collect the car today after telling them when I would be there I am left waiting an hour and a half, they drive the car in and I notice that one of the Porsche badges is missing off one of the wheels, they say they'll order it in and send it to me... what are the chances!! and after I've driven off I notice that the cover is missing from the windscreen wiper. I feel a bit stupid but each time I go there they get me so angry that I just want to get the hell out of there. What do I do now??

:mod edit: no naming and shaming please

1. This post will be edited by a mod to remove the garage name. Name and shame rules on here are pretty simple.

2. Why did you accept a car that wasn't acceptable?

3. What do you want to happen? Reject the car (unlikely given the issues involved) or have them sort it?

Best solution: write to them giving them 14 days (or any other reasonable time period) to sort the problems. In that letter outline that if they have not rectified all the problems, having given them ample opportunity, you will take the car to the nearest Porsche OPC and have them do it and then pursue them for the costs through the small claims court.

Suck it up and sort it yourself, there hardly costly items to sort.

You should in hind sight never took the car till all the issues were sorted, silly but that's how most places are these days, once they have your money that's it.

Sure this thread will get deleted anyway.

Why would anybody 'suck it up' when they have paid for X and are given Y?

Agreed. If it is a main dealer state unless the issues are resolved in X time you will be complaining to Porsche UK. If it's an independent then cut your losses once you have the satnav CD (as this is expensive) and do the other items yourself.

As mentioned i wouldn't of paid for the car until all problems had been rectified. At least you're more in control.

Why, why, why do people buy cars that have clearly not been well looked after, either by the previous owner or the dealer flogging them on?

It's not hard to tell when a salesman is lying, his lips move wink
Any deal, get it in WRITING. A verbal contract's not worth the paper it's written on. Salesmen will say anything to get the deal, then laugh at how they "shafted the punter".
You'll know better next time.

It's not like it's something really expensive is it, a wheel cap, ashtray etc, the cost of going back as many times as he has I would have thought he could have sorted it himself now and not had the stress.

It's not a main dealer it's an independent so I would doubt it will get sorted, how high can you go, sounds like its as far as it's going where it's at now.

Sometimes when you give people a chance a few times and things don't get sorted its easier just to move on, put it down to experience and move on with your life, obviously it's not ideal but other than stabbing the salesman what's next?

I'd say it's the principle. Slowly and by the scruff of the neck, trading standards have pulled the second hand trade out of the Arfur Daley days. If a plumber fits a tap and the pipework leaks , do you expect to have to put it right yourself?

Not quite the same scenario but yes I do agree with you, what does he do then, continue to get fobbed off and get no where or suck it up and learn from a mistake, should never have took the car as it was?

Can't put trust in anyone these days.
