Good news; At the Northern end of Gt. Barford on the A421 between Bedford and the A1. It's got a blue cover over it, but the ground is scorched all around. Well done, guys. Gt. Barford needs a bypass, not 2 stinking speed cameras.

Bad news; There was a Talivan taking its place there this morning.

Ah, but we know that speed cameras are only placed in accident blackspots! Any local will tell you that those two cameras are perfectly placed: they were installed before the Clapham bypass was opened, and anyone who has experience of Bedford's road planners will tell you that anything they do is an accident waiting to happen.

Good move: design a road, then claim it's dangerous, so fit the cameras before it's open. Far more sensible than designing it properly in the first place...

Err, the Gt. Barford cameras have nothing to do with the A6 Clapham bypass. Agreed, the A6 cameras breach the "4 accidents" rule, since they were erected on a new road, but I assume they're there to make sure people slow down as they enter Milton Ernest.

The problem in Gt. Barford is all the traffic from the Bedford Southern bypass trying to get to the A1. It's a small village with a narrow 30mph road through it. It should have been bypassed decades ago. As I understand it, the intent is to dual everything from M1 J13 to the A1, including bypassing Gt. Barford, but I just hope I live long enough to see it. After all, Lavendon on the A428 was promised a bypass in 1947. They're still waiting.

You may applaud this behaviour. Of course, I couldn't possibly comment.

I'd class the Clapham cameras as an accident waiting to happen... as you come off the dual, funnelling from two lanes into one, the limit drops not to 60 but to 50, and in the middle of this people are panic-braking to well under 50 for the cameras. It is true that the 50 is not particularly well sighted and has several driveways opening onto it, but the whole thing is really a cheap-ass "solution"; it would have been better to carry on and bypass Milton Ernest as well.

Good thinking by the £artnership, build a new dangerous road, cover it with scameras and start earning.

Sorry chap! I got a bit confused (I'm terrible with village and road names, that's why I have satnav!).

But one of the Clapham bypass cameras has been torched as well...

Result. Someone's keen in Bedford. Send him off down the A6 as well.
