Just been stopped in the pissant, nice bloke on a bike. Saked where road tax is? "Er usual place" I replied. "That ran out in July" he said. .

Then I realise my car has been broken into recently by a chav after the ICE. He must have taken the tax disc. So yet another criminal gets away with it and I get a £60 fine. In addition I have to get a copy of the tax from Swansea. As the offense is displaying and not having or paying for then I am guilty.

What a totally stupid tax this is.

The interesting bit is my car comes up as no registered keeper and no insurance which is odd to say the least as I am the registered keeper and the car is insured. Any Ideas?

Sorry to hear about your car John, when was this???

Tossers.....

Regarding your road tax, I am sure if you wrote a letter, explaining the circumstances to the appropriate authorities, they would turn a blind eye, providing you could prove that you did have the tax.....

Not sure, but i think the offence is failure to display a valid tax disk ??

Correct, but if there is tax for the car and the explanation is correct, the there will be NFA. Report the additional loss to the local BiB and contact DVLA. You should get a replacement.

Re your insurance and keeper details on PNC, there could be several reasons, company car, traders policy etc will not show insurance details on PNC. Might be wise to ask your insurance company if they have noted the correct reg number (sometimes A778ABC becomes A788ABC etc).
You may have a problem with your vehicle reg plate, Does it match the V5. Check the visible VIN (on the dash, usually read through the windscreen on the passenger side, to see if it relates to your chassis number displayed on the V5). If there is a problem pop down to your local police station and have it looked at - 95% of the time it's an admin cock up somewhere along the line.

Hi nonegreen, one of my cars does the same, this brought me additional interest from a pleasant enough BiB when off 'my' turf who said, after we had established my bony fidos, "your car reg. no. drew a blank, I had to ask for a full check to get the details" I assume this was a similar situation but maybe as the BiB was a sergeant he knew what additional step(s) to take? No offence to all the stripe-less PH constables out there...

Probably the same fault that means 30-40% of ANPR readings show up as incorrect despite the car being totally legitimate. The two databases are not linked hence the problems.

When I got pulled they had no registered keeper or anybody insured on it. Mind you, it was only 3 days old and my second time driving it.

Today mate when I got pulled. About a month ago when the car got broken into. I have no prob with the Policeman he was fine, I think Swansea have had long enough though to get their act together its time this kind of stuff stopped happening. I will of course write in to the court and send check but ask that they take circumstances into account but strictly speaking the offence is not displaying.

Sorry to hear about this - nonegreen.

Pal had car tax disc nicked last month. He had disabled the car hi-fi and removed his useful gadget ... but it was the inconvenience of fixing broken window etc.

Interestingly, Swansea had "mislaid" his details as well...

Been sorted out now - after suitably veiled polite letter ...

But ... given the DVLA thread on here and a couple of other anecdotes ... hardly confidence-inspiring - is it?

This year, I forgot to MOT my car, didn't realise until 5 months later when I sold it....

....then in July I forgot to renew my insurance, thing is the previous year they did it automatically, so I drove around for a month without any insurance.

oops.

Me too! 24 hours after picking it up and with sirens and lights blazing in full view of the local shops and my neighbours! Felt like a real criminal. Fact is they really wanted a chat about the car and told me as such. The only reason they stopped me is when they ran the plate it came back as a silver TT. Would seam odd that the records had not updated for 7 months as I had put the plate on retention! Daft thing is I pulled over to let them past and they pulled in behind!
