Tipsy OAP gets buggy ban

A pensioner has been banned from the road after crashing his electric buggy into the back of a bus.

William Nolson, 74, was led to an ambulance singing after one too many drinks in Esholt, Bradford, a court heard.

Nolson, a driver for 50 years, was banned for 12 months and ordered to pay £43 costs, reports the Mirror.

He said outside Bingley court: "I'm packing in driving because I'm not fit to be on the road. I'm going to have an even more sheltered life now."

Whilst I find this quite funny, I also find it strange that he has been banned for 12 months for driving a 'buggy' whilst tipsy, yet people who do far more dangerous things on the road, don't get that kind of ban.

Think someone received a similar ban for "operating a lawn mower tractor whilst over the prescribed limit" in the summer. Seem to recall reading this.

Perhaps they discriminated against his age und perhaps it is because the buggy (or tractor in the other case) are perceived as "vulnerable"

Wish they would be just as "lettet of law" to cyclists - especially the ones whose "lentils have fermented"

But perhaps he had cut someone up? I agree they seem to be taking lawn order to extremes with this one.

There are some really creepy buggey people round here

Saw one driving down the A380 - for those who dont know the area its a duel carrageway NSL and its the road that someone was caught doing 145 on a short while back !!!

Old fool was in the inside lane doing his 7mph while cars were literally swerving to get out the way over the crest of hills and stuff!!!

We've got a bloke locally who drives his little buggy on the road, in the dark, with no lights - probably on his way back from the pub.

He'll darwin himself soon enough...
