I did that exact speed on the M25 back in 1988 and got 1 month's ban and a big fine.

I would have thought these days you'd be locked up in prison, have your car crushed and your children put in care, wouldn't you?

Who got 6 points for it?

Your sentence is about what I would expect. We got 6 points recently for a chap accused of 124 in a 70. We accepted the speed alleged. No reduced basis of plea. Just great mitigation. It's the biggest I have ever seen avoid a ban altogether.

Nice work. I'll bear you in mind if I ever happen to be so stupid again wink

I was caught again 6 months later at 110 in a 60 and thought another 1 month's ban was a really good result!

After that, I fitted a rear view mirror to my car rolleyes

Yep you did well second time around to avoid anything longer.

You would have been up for a 6 month ban if you'd got points the first time around so you did better getting two relatively short discretionary bans.

No, not actually higher, but proportionally higher: 115 in a 60. The culprit wasn't caught though.

Just wondering - would not a short (eg 2 week) ban be preferable to 6 points?

Agreed, but if the culprit was not caught then we cannot compare...biggrin

All depends on the client. This one could not cope with any kind of discretionary ban, so 6 points was his best possible outcome. If it was me a short discretionary would be preferable.

You would be looking at at least a 12 month ban up here in the free workers republic of salmondland

I can vouch for that!
In fact you will be lucky to get off with a ban & not a jail sentence.

I passed a marked police car on the M1 near Northampton at 115 mph and he did nothing.
It was in 1964 and I was driving a 3.8 Jag Mk.2!!

This seems oddly appropriate.

My cousins dad got caught doing over 100 mph on motorway, he got a enormous fine (cant remember how much) and banned for 3 years, it was in the 1980's, he was 5 x over the limit at the time, pretty sure that would be jail these days.
