Campaign AGAINST Quiet Lanes

Seems a campaign is under way......keep an eye on it, there seems to be no other organised opposition to the greenfreaks in the lanes.

At least saveourcountryside.co.uk seem to feel this is a waste of time as well.. I live in an area where these things are springing up - a further total waste of tax payers money when they should be fixing pot holes you have to move (or in some cases swerve as I have witnessed) into the other side of the road to avoid!!

Indeed & currently share the roads with horses/bikers/ramblers/motorists/tractors quite happily.. so why waste the money!

If they are already careful drivers they will drive carefully down an obviously minor rural road, if not they will tend to drive as usual. There is no evidence that these lanes are safer for walkers etc as a result of the scheme.

Yep, but they'll blame the motorist/cyclist/farmer or whatever for the accident rather than their own scheme.

If safety is a significant issue, why not simply urge the DoT to authorise the replacement of the current recently erected 30mph speed limit signs on these lanes with statutory 20mph signs?

Because 20 mph speed limit areas are statistically more dangerous than those set to 30 mph.

Sounds - useful... erm... does that mean No Diesels or TVR's are allowed along such roads?

Wtf, we pay our damn taxes for our roads, and then the government makes them half footpath and bridleway with bumps and narrow sections to slow drivers down and impair their ability to drive as they would along a normal road!
Why not build proper paths in nice areas for people to walk on?
Why witter on about right to roam, to just then walk on the roads?
Damn toss pots some people!

Oh well, yet again the minority getting the star treatment while the rest of us get rodgered for it!

Quite true Dave and couldn't agree more, the obvious reason for the minority getting their own way is that they actually shout when something annoys them, the rest of us sit back and complain what's been done, perhaps it's about time we as the majority started to take note and stamp these rediculous ideas out - or better still anyone want to help start a "Common Sense Party"? Just noticed - its under general gassing at the moment - spooky..
