Derbyshire SCP site

I wandered over to the Derbyshire SCP site this afternoon at www.slowitdown.co.uk () to see if there was any news of their CC's recent escapades.

There wasn't, but they do have an amusing little speed challenge game. It's just a shame you have about 50 feet visibility, and the car's fitted with rod-operated drum brakes.

Best so far is 10 minutes late.

How are you supposed to get there without breaking the speed limit?

I think it's done so you can't do it without being late, you get the following message when you complete it:

Game said:

You made it to work! You were ten minutes late, but you arrived safely and without injuring anyone. The fact that you are late for work would be of no help to the parents of a child who dies due to your excessive speed.

Charming eh? I guess in their world no-one ever gets sacked for constant lateness. Then again I doubt the scameraships have any standards in their offices at all, just turn up, do something or other, and pick up a cheque.

You get the same message if you sit in front of your PC mit your arms folded und since you never set out in first place ... you are more than 10 minutes late for work as you are now throwing sicky und thus breaking employment contract by stealing SSP or compnay sick and "holiday" day....

That and the two men in the pub.....

The shallowness of their argument....und the one advocating slowing down was the who was drinking ... und then probably driving

Asked if they were pressing the point about speed, or the point about being extremely short sighted therefore you shouldn't be on the road.

If I could only see 3 car lengths in front, being late for work would be the least of my worries.

No but you can use their "Camera Request" page to suggest a new location for a speed camera, citing the stretch of the M1 where the Cheif Constable was caught, stating why it is needed there as "to stop those in power from flouting the law" Plus an any other comments section to ask a pertinant question about the incident.

WHAT A JIP,

you are ALWAYS 10 minutes late, no matter what your speed. I tried it toggling between 40 and 30 (near junction), then at 5 all the way, always 10 minutes late.

At least I managed to mow down some kids at 100

I just tried it without moving, I still made it to work

Last time that game came up I ended up emailing them about it. No visibility plus a car that accelerates 0 to 60 in something like 4 seconds but has no brakes does not give any other message than the 'we are clueless morons who want to steal your money' one.

if you drive at the speed limit there don't seem to be as many hazards presenting themselves! Is this what happens in real life i.e. the faster you go the more pelican crossing magically appear. The level of short sighted stupidity of the anti speed anti car brigade knows no bounds


Just emailed them this:

Derbyshire SCP,

Had a good look at your site and have yet to find any information that is aimed at improving the standard of driving across the county. I can't except that rigid adherence to speed limits is the way to improve the terrible driving which I witness everyday. What your site basically says is that you can drive with your eyes shut as long as you stick to the speed limit, as hitting a pedestrian (who must also have their eyes shut) at 30mph is "safer" than at 40mph! By preaching this speed kills mantra you are ignoring the most effective way of reducing casualties which is increased driver training (judging suitable speed based on the conditions rather than arbitrary limits) and increased road safety awareness in schools, i.e. making people responsible for their own safety!

p.s. The speed challenge game is a joke. A car that does 0-60 in 4 seconds but has the braking system of model T ford and a driver that can only see ~30 metres! Narrow minded propaganda based on agendas other than "safety" in my opinion!

Steering fails under 5mph.

If you drive on the wrong side of the road slow enough (do about 6mph to be able to steer across, then drop below 5mph!) you get a clear run (watch out for those Belisha Beacons!).

But Speed DOES Kill - If you do more than 5mph on the wrong side of the road there's a major wipeout if you come within half a car's width of oncoming traffic!

But you can usually scream up to 50mph from a standing start as long as you drop right back to 25mph!

Also quite safe to go 25 - 40 - 25 - 40mph most of the time, and weave all over the road.

And scream across zebras on a kids heels!

And I bloody live there!!!!! You'd think that if my council tax and income tax went to pay their wages that they'd be a little more responsive.......

I'm now living in derbyshire so a reply to a tax payer would be nice.
