Red lights

Hi all

A mate of mine has been snapped running a red light, he's recieved an NIP but when I asked him if there was an option to post a cheque and his licence for fixed penalty he said he couldn't remember whether there was or not (we were talking about it in the boozer and he didn't have it with him)

IIRC don't you get the option to post a cheque with speed cameras (assuming you weren't over the limit for fixed penalty option) and if there was no such option on the red light NIP, will he be going to court? What's the usual outcome?

The NIP you recieve for speeding is the same as for a red light offence. Provided he doesnt have 9 points then the procedure is the same. I would say that if he returns the NIP naming himself then they will write back with a conditional offer of 3 points and £60 quid.

Is the red light camera in Carnaby, humberside, still copping motorists by the way (if anyone knows this one). It's the railway one that becomes live the moment the red lights comes on (doesn't have an amber), and the road is NSL. Basically you drive up to it, and should the red lights come on, it's got you. No warning, no time to stop. Flash flash.
Only way to cross it and be safe is.....well, there isn't one, unless you get out, check the line for trains in the distance, and SLOWLY creep across.

Blimey Bryan that's worth knowing, thanks! This year I've been down both the A165 and the A614 (ie each end of the road you're talking about) yet not had to drive down Moor Lane. (iirc)

As an aside do you remember the days when Carnaby aerodrome was still just a disused aerodrome, kept in reasonable condition for any emergency landings. Ace hooning site.

Regarding NIPs, different forces have different formats.
Some allow you to 'fess up and send a cheque straight away whilst others you have to name the driver and then they might send a conditional offer separately.
