Has been collected in Bolton. £4m in 4 years... 190,000 parking tickets issued ... according to the local Bolton paper tonight.
44.000 are expected to have been issued by end of this year - the highest number since new parking regulations were introduced in this northern Market Town. Think they even fined people atending the late Fred Dibnah's funeral
Tory Councillor said people have been hit with tickets because they simply were not aware that there was now a Sunday restriction being enforced. The Labour councillor blame "irresponsible drivers"
Bolton council pays £750K pa and "otehr running costs to APCOA to cover enforcement. They claim the money raised in fines will be routed into traffic management schemes
(Ah! More humps... after paying for the initial set up costs of the system and the "parking shop" building in Pool Street.
Ian Taylor (bloke in charge of car parking at the council) said he expected set up costs should be paid off by 2009
Hugh German (vice chairman of Bolton IAM) is quoted as saying lot of people in Bolton do deserve to get a parking ticket but then adds that many of the tickets issued have been due to over zealous wardens dishing out tickets for being a couple of inches over the bay
