Police able to drug test "Suspected" Criminals

So does this mean they'll be able to basiclly drug test anyone? Just because they suspect?!

Drugs Bill

Plans to allow police to drug test people arrested for minor crimes. Addicts could also be forced into treatment and council tenants whose homes are used by drug addicts evicted.

So ... no proof required, just arrested.

Don't forget that since April this year authorised Plods have power, where driver suspected of driving whilst impaired through drugs to carry out roadside impairment tests and arrest if you fail or refuse.

One of the tests is the one leg standing test (I kid you not) - Stand on one leg with foot raised 6 to 8 inches for 30 seconds counting out loud. Repeat on the other leg.

Now as one who has trouble on a morning hitting the leg hole of my trousers from a standing position then I am instant failure on this one so it would be collar felt and into Custody for Physician/Toxilogical samples which would prove me innocent.

Now I have often wondered about this.

Person X gets nicked.

Goes through roadside drug testing, fails.

Toxicology comes back as a positive for cannabis.

You're nicked mate.

I always understood that the consumption of drugs is not a criminal offence (unlike possession or supply) so what is the point of testing? Bit like testing whether you can speak Albanian.
