Maybe it's just me, but PH seems to have become a little more divided recently - where the hell's Street gone?

There's certainly a lot of threads about how people feel they have been poorly treated by the Police (such as Evo666's thread), or the Police have failed to attend/deal with their problem.

Can anyone recount a time they were happy with the Police response?

Maybe it's time for another of my "What do you want me to do at work today?" type threads for nights this weekend...

Here's a happy one for you

There is a weirdo in the road opposite to me, always been a bit strange in that he pushes into the bus queue, growls at you and the like. It's long been rumoured that he was a bit "weird" and the last few days have proved that quite nicely!

Where I live is terraced housing, pit village to be honest, so we all kinda know what goes on in our cul-de-sac of 100 houses or so, this been a case in point. About 3 years ago it was suggested that this bloke had got so annoyed at the deaf lady he lived beside having the TV turned on loudly he started banging on the wall with a broom stick. This was exaggareted into he put a brick out and was shouting through the wall at the poor woman, or at least we thought it was Chinese whispers.

It all came to a head in the last few days when the bloke had actually put a hole in the wall, but made it so large he could put his whole torse through now, he even threatened to kill the old dear hence the Police were called.

He then went to the dole office (it came as a complete shock to me that he didn't work) and his money wasn't ready - he threatened to kill the woman there which while bad is even more scary when he was waiting for her at the end of the day. Police called again Obviously he ran away and wasn't caught that time.

So he's back in the area again, rumoured to be back in house, Police called/turn up very quickly but can't find the bloke...

Now thats not a nice story at all, in fact it's downright disgraceful and I dare say had we as a neighbourhood thought the rumours had any substance to them years ago things might have been different but there is something been done now.

My understanding is that all the people in the street he lives in have been asked to call them Police the moment he turns up, similary the old woman has been given a panic button and I've seen our local Policewomen pop into her house umpteen times today. It certainly is nice to have our own BiB in the village

There is another great story as well that happened in our area. About 6 years ago there was a couple of known drug dealers in the area, one of which lived at x y street. We all knew he was there but he never caused us any bother and it was common knowledge - even the Police knew.

One day our dog, a German Shepard, started going her ends at 6:45 or so on a weekday morning, my dad who was eating his breakfast at the time went to see a Policeman in full riot gear shouting to get the dog back as he was coming in. Dad holding his sandwich and plate in his hand started to move to do as asked when the other Police man, who was at the front door with the battering ram came charging round to shout "wrong house" They had raided x z street instead

Came back and apologised they did

Ahhh..... our BiB bash moments...

Yes .... there are odd occasions when we are happy with the police... (Not many ... but there are some....)

Trying hard to think of one Not happy with Wildy's BiB cousin .. he has managed to trounce me at my own game twice now ... golf

On the other hand ... he has managed to remove some dangerous chavs off the road in his patch...

Wildy was awe-inspired when she learned that gone was faced with looking for bodies in the recent Reading train crash.....a most distressing job for anyone.

Possible capture of the dangerous guy who killed the French student...

North Wales police now writing to 6000 motorists admitting that the evidence against them was flawed

I think that Mr B should personally sign these letters...

Well ... at least they have done this ... their colleagues in South Wales (M4 roadworks fiasco) did not

There .. Dibs ... have I cheered you up

hmmm not really down to the police for me mate. We need to get rid of the scum that we elected and we need to get rid fast. Most people are happy enough with police but pissed at the civil service scum that balls up the police force with administrivia. (Same applies to health service) See, the public respect those who do. The firemen, doctors, nurses and cops who fix stuff when it all goes pear shaped. The public may not all be well educated but they can see through bullshit pretty rapid. Scamership death/theft camera partnerships and hospital Administrivia specialists, they see through that crap instantly. Cos for most people life is hard and we do not like seeing our money wasted on rubbish (like bumps and cameras). We might put it right at the next election but the pendulum will swing, it always does. Have patience.

Got pulled by N Yorks trafpol for having no front plate on my RX7 (I did but it was attached to the passenger side sunvisor so possibly not too legal ). Copper wrote me a VDRS which I thought reasonable, he sympathised with me for not really having a place to have one and ended up sitting in, having a look at the rotary, giving it a rev etc.

Top bloke, used his discretion, really friendly. He was even impressed that I pulled over without being asked (it was obvious he was coming for a word with me so I pulled into a quiet road and pulled up without him needing the blues).

I've seen him a couple of times since and he always waves, is generally friendly.

Top stuff

Street was taking some time out as he had a very greefy fatal to deal with which he felt was tainting his responses on here, judging by the email i can understand what he was going through.

It certainly has become more divided as of late to say the least!

I've had several 'chats' with Old Bill, aka PC Bobby Copper
I've generally found that Traffic guys are the most reasonable, if you are with them. It's Constable Arsey in his little Panda that always seems to come the hard man to me: when I was 18 I took a roundabout at what seemed to be a reasonable speed for the conditions and this cop chased me and in between swearing said he'd like to lock me up and throw away the key. A tad excessive I thought.
Now, in my taxi days I was pulled for doing 70+ in a built-up at 2AM. Slapped wrist, don't do it again.
Got pulled for 93 on the M3, outside lane with a trailer. 3 points and £40... not for speeding though. Quick nick, fair enough.
Slowing down from 130 on the M**, blue lights, pull over. Here's a producer, nice car, always fancied one of those TVRs myself, goodnight.
Then there was my taxi crash. PC attends the scene, not your fault, off you go. Next day, dragged down the cop shop, taped interview, driving without due care and attention. Er, but she pulled out in front of me, you said so youself. I said nothing of the sort, you're nicked. Case dismissed due to incompetence - Panda boy not Traffic, again.
Only time I have EVER had a speeding ticket, it was an ANPR scamera (Cumbria, surprise surprise), in conditions where Traffic would almost certainly not have bothered.
So I have no argument with the Police, just the bastardos above them.
I once got pulled on my motorbike: the officer actually complimented me on my riding (luckily I had a pillion as a witness cos the guys in the pub would have never believed it!) - and one year I won the local Police m/cycle road safety trial.

Keep up the good work, fellas Just look the other way when you see a black Esprit hooning...

Same sentiments here........

OK, so there are a few bad apples, but that applies to any large organisation, most Bibs (imo) are first rate, especially all the ones on here, including street........

Not an easy job, lousy hours, having to deal with all the scum of society, going to work every day not knowing whether they are going to be spat at, shot at or stabbed, BUT I would imagine, a more rewarding job (money aside) than most people will ever know.......

So keep up the good work guys, this is one Ph'er who appreciates your efforts.......

Mostly good except ONE event that I shan't repeat again on here.

The time I got pulled after trying to lose a following car cross country 3am one morning. 10 Miles later they pulled me in a cheese cutter & were very friendly & even mocked how they had trouble keeping up.

The time I got pulled on the A303 after they'd been trying to keep up for 15miles!!! . Just got back from Deutchland & I was getting carried away. Could have been a slammer job at 3 numpty units+ but they gave me an SP60 instead.

Various times I've asked Trafpol technical questions about the law & they have had to time to explain the ins & outs or get the book out if they did'nt know.

The ones who gave me a lift from the M25 after my Citroen Dyanne (offroader it was) cought fire big time. They did'nt have to but thanks lads.

To all our BiBs on here:
I know that you're all doing a good job, but there are always some, dare I say it, "african aboriginals in the woodpile"....
Mostly however it's the total incompetence of Billy Liars Scum who ferkup everything and then introduce stupid, un-thought-out regulations and laws, and tell blatant lies to everybody (while extracting not only the urine but the taxes) which is getting everyone very peed-off.
Problem is the messenger getting beheaded not the message sender!

I know quite a few BiB personally and they're all getting peed-off with stupidity, PCism, chavs, etc and on top of that getting lumbered with useless paperwork, targets etc so that the policing is going out the window; AND if they arrest anyone (even caught with their hands in the till) they know it's not worth following up because these untrained PC magistrates will just give the scrotes a paid holiday (because they're disadvantaged), but 1mph over an idiotic limit is a gullible paying subject who has the chance of losing his license and livelihood! BUT WILL PAY...

We need a radical overhaul of the justice system but these lying scum in government will never do it as they themselves would be the targets!!!!!!

Sorry iof the rant is too long and if I've not articulated well enough...in a nutshell BiBs majority Good, lawmaking etc rubbish!!!

You're on to a bit of a hiding, Dibble. By definition, the only time most people meet BiB is when there is a problem of some kind. This may be the enforcement of some stupid, recently lowered 30mph speed limit. You'll never get those people on-side.

I doesn't help when people are burgled and the BiB pretty much admit to the fact that the culprits will likely never be caught. On of my sites was broken into. A bar was used to gain entry. BiB didn't turn up to site - just issued a crime number over the phone. When the site agent mentioned the bar he was told 'If you think it's important then bag it and send it to us'. Maybe crime number should be issued online??

In personal dealings, though, I used to get stopped occassionally in the post-club hours whilst driving hot hatches - many years ago. It was a routine check and as soon as they had clocked that the steering lock was intact we were usually waved on our way.

I am convinced that being personable is the ONLY way to treat BiB. Their powers are discretionary so I don't mind crawling a bit to get out of a prosecution. When you are friendly you usually find that their guard drops and Trafpol are mainly petrolheads anyway.

The few BiB I know personally are great. I still see my bike instructor (Met bike police) on occassion. He always asks something like 'How fast have you had out of your bike?'

Maybe I've been lucky or maybe some less fortunate have brought some of it onto themselves. At the end of the day BiB are only human.

My feelings towards the BIB runs abit deeper again as mentioned above though its not the fault of the chap on the shop floor so to speak, but they do have the impression of cash collectors as the most your everday man see's of the BIB's is as that role taxing the motorist.
i live in the Suffolk countryside, in the past ten years I have had a trailer stolen from my drive, my house burgled, been shot in the middle of Ipswich by a complete stranger (with a 22 airrifle, but still bloody hurt), and on a more serious note my father was killed whilst abroad. All of which the police have done nothing constructive about. Save the excellent Chief of Police in Ipswich who dealt personally with my fathers case, but still came up with nothing!
However I have been nicked three times, one slightly bald tyre on the girlfriends Metro, three points £60 thanks very much. Once on the bike 79mph on the A12 3 points £40 thanks very much, Its an R1 and perfectly safe at 79mph!!! And then for sleeping in my car while a little pissed. Stupid idea but it was cold and i was a long way from home. 18mth ban and £200 with 40hrs community service and a criminal record. WTF!!!

i can not be alone in judging others by their actions, everyone does, i appreciate catching a killer in Africa is more difficult than a drunk sleeping in a Golf in a pub car park, but then i didn't hurt anyone. Nor does 79mph make you deadly on an open stretch of road on a vehicle designed to handle correctly at 100mph more than that. As for a bald tyre, well Ok sorry.

Thats what i see as wrong.

Rant over.

Dibble Liebchen...

First of all ... agree 100% with lieben nonegreen's reply to you.

As for Strassen's dealings mit an incident ...... always difficult ... as you know yourself when you had to deal mit those relatives of they cylclist involved in accident on one very rainy night a few months ago....

Und my cousin BiBs admit to the stomach heaves on some of the things they have seen....

Und the one one who saved my life that time..... I am surprised the Mad Doc did not mention ..... either the one who broke news to him und brought him to me at great speed.... or the one who kept me awake and warm throughout the ordeal. That was what really saved one of my nine lives for me....

But that ist why you are so valuable on the roads for us... no scamera nor talivan could have called emergency services, provided some comfort for a cat in distress like that.

But we all know there exists the odd bad apple und-- as mit doctors und toppest scientists und their toppest drugs companies und teachers --- the papers will make veritable feast of the ones caught out. But most educated people know that the majority are not so... are the same decent hard-working people. Tis just unfortunate that they are too busy to come to take fingerprints as same yob made a night of it. Und it is our misfortune that the people in charge are half baked pretzels..... who believe in scams not cops..... und then fill up all your free time mit meaningless paperwork.....

But Liebchen ... you do not want to hear this ... but when behind the driver's seat .. you are King of Car. You are the person who ist to drive the thing... so you are the one who has to check the POWER before you set off - especially in a strange car.

If - for example - you hired a car ...

It would be you und not the hire car company who would be responsible for state of tyres, windscreen wash und wipers..... you would receive the fine und points on your licence. Your only recourse would be to take civil court action against hire company for providing service (which you paid through nose for) as they failed in duty of care to provide roadworthy car und you could take them to cleaners over it...hopefully very successfully....

These were a bit jobsworthy - especially the speeding one ....but my car ist also capable of very high speeds (und I do indulge ... on the A/bahn .... (After all ... never possible to do this on car park they call M6 )

But it ist not whether or not car can do that speed safely ... it ist more whether you have the skill to so this safely

but in the other.... but apparently the law says if you are in driver's seat then you could be intending to drive the car. You may have been asleep ... but there was no guarantee that you body would have returned to legal status in the morning....Und in any case ... if you were already sleeping in your car ... then you could have been driving whilst intoxicated before your pulled over. Und ist myth that booze keeps your body temperature up in cold weather too....you are lucky you did not freeze to death

Could you not ... in circumstance ... have asked to stay night inside the pub? ... or got landlord to arrange for taxi to local B&B? Where there would have been pots of strong hot coffee?

But can see that from you point of view ... these are quite trivial compared with the other things you have suffered...

The BiB will always come in for stick. The only time that most members of the public have contact with them is when something has gone wrong. This is not conducive to pleasant recollections.
Another thing i've found is that BiB have a very skewed view of society whereby they spend most of their time dealing with the dregs which makes them more likley to treat the normal members of society as criminals they haven't caught yet! Talking to a friend (sort of friend), who is has just joined up as a special, confided that she didn't know what the real world was like until she started the job. The working world of the average BiB is a long way away from the normal world!

Mmmmm, this is a very interesting point, perhaps resident Bibs might be able to comment......

a) So you are asleep, pd in a YOUR car drivers seat on a private PUB car park, with no keys in the ignition is this an offence???? Surely not??

b) Same scenario but you are asleep in the front passenger seat, or in the back???

I think this ist correct ... think it ist OK to sleep in passenger or back seat....as bit difficult to prove you have been driving or intending to drive ....

But driver's seat ist different.... it ist viewed ... I think .... as the attempting/intending to drive which ist why they could breathalyse you as you open car door when they lurk after the tip off sometimes. I have read this as occurring in local paper last Xmas under the "Shame Page" This would be unfortunate if it ist your car und you are opening it so that sober mate can drive it.... but then you would have to prove said mate was insured to drive car .....

Not sure how this works if you sprawl across both seats in front of car.... But if you were only person in car ... they may view this in same way......

After wracking my brain, I've remembered a good one.

My dodgy Volvo 460 (sorry, but it was cheap and I needed transport) had broken down on a dual carriageway and I was somewhat stranded when I noticed a marked Mondeo 2.5 V6 go by in the opposite direction. They dutifully turned round at the next junction and came to see if I was ok. They then offered to tow me to the nearest petrol station which was 1/2 mile away, but it got me off the dual carriageway and out of harms way. So off we went, at an indicated 55mph, me with no power assistance on the brakes , but all was fine and after buying some bits from the petrol station I was able to continue on my journey. Quality stuff.

Dibble,

Difficult, probably often thankless job. Not many would want it. And as has been said, meeting a copper is usually under bad circumstances one way or the other.

But I have to agree, I think most peoples' frustrations are with the powers that be or the CPS, NOT individual bobbies...but guess what, you guys are the faces of that organisation, and I think you're doomed to suffer the consequences (Much like NTL customer support, I guess! )

Personally - had very little contact, hope to keep it that way (given what I said in 3rd sentence). The coppers on here to me seem mostly open-minded and rational, hence deserving respect...although a few of us ordinary blokes are having trouble opening gone's mind at the moment...some sort of crowbar may be required, I feel.
