Neighbourhood Watch

Following some recent problems in our street (cars being keyed etc.) it has been suggested to me by the local police that we should set up a Neighbourhood Watch scheme. I just wondered if anyone else on here has any experience of these schemes, in particular how worthwhile they are and what sort of relationship they give you with the local police.

Do it!
It can only make things better. I organised one in my street and since having it ujp and running for the last 10 years, nothing untoward has happened. A local business that is close by has payed for the signs and are members of the NW.

We have had a street barbeque once a year for the last 5 years where everybody from the road attends and we shut the road off completely. We even built a swimming pool in the road for the kids this year. Things like this help you to get to know even your distant neighbours and start to get the neighbourhood working together not just to deter criminal activity but to look out for everyone should there be any sort of problem requiring help!

It will also help to encourage good relations with your local area bobby !

Not according to the way ther Govt is changing policy over Policing.
Blunkett wants the strategy to evolve around local beat officers. There will be many more of them in the months/years to come. A sort of re-inventing the wheel exercise

No doubt most of them will be redeployed from Traffic depts...

We have a great watch.

We also organise a yearly street party and the local cop pops in to say hi to everyone, hired a bouncy castle too but the pool idea is great

Don't forget the house insurance discount !!
