Today i went over to the rugby to watch scotland get bent over a barrel again and the trip involves the dire m8 motorway. now of course the inside lane is clear, bar one or two cars, with all the other prats sitting in the outside (2) lane plodding along at 65mph. occasionaly some tactful undertaking is required but only when the situation has been assessed and deemed safe. what happened next absolutely disgusted me. some guy in a blue bora came flying up the inside lane, then proceeded to UNDERTAKE the INSIDE lane by DRIVING DOWN THE HARD SHOULDER for about half a mile. that's not all, while performing this manouver at about 90mph (accurate assesment) he then cuts across from the hard shoulder to the outside lane!! i swear i wanted to ram the bugger off the road. imagine if someone had broken down. it doesnt bear thinking about. this is why we need trafpol, not scameras. im still fuming about this now. oh yeah, i forgot to mention it was raining at the time.

This is another "root cause" problem.
OK, the undertaker seemed to have been driving in a way that may have caused others to swerve etc, but the root cause of the problem was the lane-hogging-mobile-road-blocking fools who either didn't care or were unaware of their incorrect and rage-inducing actions.

Very dark blue or some other shade?
IIRC one of the 'security' services (could have been traffic - bad memory) somewhere in the Northants/MK area had a dark blue unmarked Bora roaming the M1 a while ago.
There may have been more than one distributed.
There might have been a reason. But would it be a good one?

and this is the problem - lane discipline. if people moved over and didnt intentionally block others because they didnt want them to get past there would be no problem, or at least a much smaller one. either way, there is no excuse for taking to the hard shoulder. even trafpol use it as a last resort, if at all.
Remember, any English readers, that most of our motorways (including this bit of the M8) are two-lane only - so *everybody* sits in the outer lane cos if you pull in, everybody moves up and you can't get out again (without losing that all-so-important place or two in the stream)
I often drive in the inside lane on the M8 if its busy, nice and easy, bags of stopping distance, maybe have to pull out once or twice for a lorry or something, and after 25 miles you're still only about 4 cars back from where you would have been if you'd tailgated the whole way in the outside lane...

wit who clearly isn't safe behind the wheel of a car. The people stuck in the outer lane (no doubt caused by a CLOD/OLOD) were just a trigger for his stupid driving.Mr2Mike said:
