Question for DVD

No offence to anyone else, but DVD seems to be an "oracle" on these matters, But glad to hear anyones opinion.

As you come off the M5 towards Exeter town center, you'll hit a 40Mph sign as you leave the link dual carriageway. This sign is illuminated. The next repeater is about 300 yards (unlit), and is actually at the side of the road you are about to join (not strictly speaking on the slip road, as it's at least 20 yards from the right hand side of the slip road. The next one is about 500 yards (unlit), across a roundabout (countess wier), and the next one is another 4-500 yards (unlit). The signs are near lamposts (although some aren't working). Does this sound like it's signed correctly?. I saw the BiB having a chat with someone the other night inside this limit (although obviously have no idea about what), and it set me wondering.
What do you think ?

Under the Traffic Signs Regs and General Directions, repeaters don't have to be specifically lit, if they are within an area of street lighting. The fact that some of the street lights may not be working at the time, is not relevant. I think they do have to be made of reflective material, but most road signs are (even the lit ones)

The ends of the speed limits (ie the points where it changes) do have to be lit.

There you are Phil, Tvrgit is not just a pretty face and puts it in a nutshell.

Whilst TSGD mentions that repeater signs are necessary for the 40 where street lamps are present and thus showing it isn't a 30 restricted road, it only states at intervals without defining. LA work to a guide as to distances.

The "Guide" that DVD refers to is the Traffic Signs Manual that sets out recommended distances between signs.

I was thinking about tis earlier today. If I knew 10% of what the likes of DVD, FiF, et al know, I'd be a very happy bunny.

Yet another symptom of today's Cops - after training school, that's pretty much it. New (BIG) legislation - eg Sexual Offences Act 2003, you may get a powerpoint emailed to you.

Equal ops and Community/Race relations (most of which is common sense anyway) is regularly rammed down your throat ad nauseam.

Had something similar the other night....

In the village where I live, there is a set of traffic lights, with fairly good visiblity all round. Coming home the other night(late), I was being followed by another car. When I stopped at the lightsI got the modern equivalent of "two tones" and Trafpol walked up to the window. Conversation as follows....."Why did you stop?" .... "Because the lights were red" ... "you don`t normally Steve! (he knew me, I didn`t know him" ....... "errr ummm " .... "No worries, just glad you stopped as there was someone behind you"!

You see, they have eyes everywhere! I normally slow for the red light, have a good look and "proceed with caution" down the road to my house.

Nice to know that most have not lost their sense of humour.
