there are new specs cameras on upper thames street in central london (thats the tower bridge end of embankment). believe it or not they cover about 30-40 meters of dual carrageway reduced to a 20 limit !!! think i got done. im so bl00dy angry as i drive really carefully in town but didnt see the unlit 20mph signs ARGHHHHHHHH i hate these "saftey" fuc4wits god i've got to go now i'm just going to wind myself up. persecuted ? too right. ever wonder why the police are losing the battle against crime?

There are plans in Newcastle to reduce the speed limit on the high level bridge (thats the one with the trains on the top of it for those that dont know) to a 20 mph limit and to enforce it with truvello

No. An urban myth. Haven't heard this one before.
Tower bridge is a 20mph zone and has SPECS on it. Has done for some time I believe.
Although ostensibly for 'saftey' reasons, it is the perfect tool for cutting driver numbers into central London. Loads of people will be banned as the 20mph will be exceeded by almost everyone until they realise it's too late. The government ain't daft; they hide behind the saftey image although they know it's cobblers. Remember they have a plan to get people back into using public transport you know. How do you do this? You sneakily remove their licences by installing sh!tty SPECS devices all over the gaff. W@nkers.
The signs were unlit? I believe speed limit signs have to be lit in the same way as those around them, so if others have lights on/in then these would have to be too. Might be worth a check. I'm sure there was no intention of catching people just because they can't see unlit signs in the dark.

That doesnt sound right - theres nowhere to put truvelo's on there surely. All there is, is a narrow road barely wide enough for two buses and a couple of footpaths, so they'd have to put them on the footpaths.
I wouldnt be surprised if the High Level was just closed completely to car traffic in the near future anyway.
Sorry if this is a daft question, but how do Specs work?
In Lower Thames St the camera is directly above the 20 mph sign so because of the angle it is actually spotting vehicles while they are still in the 30 limit.
Likewise at the exit the camera is pointing at vehicle about 15-20m before they leave the 20 zone.
There is also a speed display that tells you your speed as you enter the 20 limit going westbound, it tells you your going too fast at 21mph!! Not that I am taking any chances but on the bike you shouldn't get cought as the SPECS face forward 
Apparently this is a test to see if Specs will work in London, it seems to me that it will only work at night as the average speed in London is less than 20mph anyway!
I have to agree with the earlier post that the 20 limit is not well posted and doesn't appear to be lit, especially made worse by the fact that the 30 limit is painted on the road just before the limits IIRC.
In all a complete waste of time and money, again!
