Pulled by the old bill

I was stopped by plod this morning (speeding and headlight bulb) and they asked me a new one, was I White English, white Scotish or white Irish? So I threw him by saying white Welsh so he had to go digging in his files to find a coding! I ended up being white British.
So was wondering if this is a national thing or is it because I live in Bradford?

It's so that the government can check was colour/heritage, the people are who the police are targetting...

Yeah, I thought of a few witty replys but thought better of it, no point in rubbing them up the wrong way anymore than I did ( he accused me of calling him a liar, because we disagreed on my speed !).

Got an application form in front of me for a temporary job that allows you to specify if you are Black, White, Asian or Chinese Welsh, should you fit into that particular bracket.

Working for a personnel dept. in the public sector right now, I'm aware of how important race and diversity is in employment - I would imagine BIB have to account for exactly the same criteria with who they pull over.

It's a Home Office monitoring thing. You wouldn't believe how upset people get when they are asked to look at the copy of the above I have on my HORT1 pad, and point to the one they feel describes them.

I get no end of Scottish people telling me they're Scottish, and I then have to point out that's not an avaiable option, which really winds some of them up.

I really don't care what code people choose (or what they actually are). Some people do get upset when you ask what they are, they choose something that they're patently not, then put that down...

Go on then, what's so important about it?

Maybe I'm cutting through the PC ordure just a little too ruthlessly here, but isn't the whole point of a personnel dept to employ the most suitable candidate; ie the one who is most capable of doing the job?
