Had to chuckle
Discussion
Well, I had to chuckle the other night when my missus returned home from work... she'd borrowed my pickup for the day instead of taking her usual ride (and S2000), the reasons for which I won't go into here because it's not really pertinent to the story. The whole day had been fuss-free until her return home.
The last 5 or so miles of the journey, she comes cross-country across some back lanes, the majority of which are tight'n'twisty, unlit and with plenty of opportunity for muck or mud to be strewn over them around the next blind corner. So she's pottering along at a general 50mph which, considering she's never too comfortable in the big Nissan, was not too bad in the dark, wet conditions. The pickup doesn't have brilliant levels of grip, which is great for a spot of fun every now and then but can make pressing on in the wet a little... errm... 'clenching'
Anyway, for the best part of these 5 miles she had some total arse driving on her bumper, clearly agitated that he wasn't making any headway (well, I mean, 50 mph is just daft isn't it
sheesh, come on, there's another 60 to the legal limit). I'm sure we all know the kind of behaviour...
There's a short section through a small village which is pretty clear and straight, just after a junction, and it was here our little friend decided to go for the overtake (which, in all fairness, it's a sensible place to do so), so hoofed it past the missus and continued on at pace.
Problem is, at the end of this short straight is a deceptive downhill, poorly-surfaced section that takes you into a slightly tightening 90 right. Yep, you guessed it, he barrelled into it far too fast, straight through a hedge and ploughed nose first into a field
The missus got home and was a little shaken by the whole ordeal but, personally, I pissed myself laughing.
Anyway, next day it would appear there's been quite a bit of police activity (after my missus reported it on the night), including a forensics bloke down there in a big white "Outbreak-suit" ?! So we are assuming that this was something a bit more than a joyrider, possibly someone escaping for a scene of crime - either that or a fatal injury (which I doubt, to be honest, unless he wasn't wearing a seat belt). Would that make sense?

Did she stop to see if the driver was OK?
No, thank goodness. I say that because these days you don't know what people are going to do - he might have seen her as the reason for his agitation and excursion into Warwickshire's countryside, and taken it out on her. Or if he WAS a 'crim', he might have ended up nicking my truck.
In hindsight, I think she did the best thing - got straight home (only a few more miles from there) and reported it to the police.
To be honest, even if I had been driving, I think I'd only have stopped to have a laugh at him.
Gets coat ready, one arm in sleeve....
If owing to the presence of a motor vehicle on a road, an accidents occurs, which causes damage to a vehicle, other than that vehicle, the driver shall STOP.
(S 170 RTA 88)....??????
SHMBO 's presence led to him overtaking leading to accident ?????
runs and slams door.

Dwight has a point and as ever is quite correct in legal references, but brum also has a point, in the fact that his wife was on her own, and did report it straight away at the nearest police station.
If it had been me I would have stopped, but I wouldn't have been happy if my wife had stopped for the reasons Brum has highlighted.
There was obviously something sus as soco or csi as we are supposed to call them now turned up. However the road wasn't closed, so not a fatac.
Possibly a stolen vehicle, or previously used in crime, or with markers on.

Thanks Mike - presumed as much.
I take Dwights point, and in different circumstances I (and I'm sure the missus) would have stopped - we're not animals - but given the prevailing behaviour of said individual I would have done nothing differently, and would do the same in the future.
FWIW, the policewoman/operator on the other end of the line (on the night) was laughing as well
