How often do you tell yourself not to go killing yourself?
Whenever I am driving fast I always find myself reminding myself not to go silly and do anything stupid. Is this a good or bad sign?
Does anyone else fine themselves saying this to themselves when driving quickly?
Personally I think it keeps my feet on the ground and reminds me of my own mortality.

Near me was a very long road which I always used to use when coming back from a well known shopping centre (I'm not going to name it!).
You could do STUPID speeds on there for a long period of time.
I actually used to drive the long way round to get home (on motorway rather than this bypass), because I used to do such silly speeds. Never had any problems at all, but at the end of this few mile straight was an off-camber,banked,right hander onto a blind roundabout. Many bikers unfortunately crashed there - that helped quite alot to be sensible.
I understand completely where you're coming from though, many times I say to myself "knock it down a tenth and be more sensible".

Don't ge tme wrong, I *love* to press on but it is all about pressing on in the right circumstances. Personally, I find myself thinking stuff like...
"I wonder what he is going to do..." (eyeing up an overtake)
"I wonder what I would need to do if a vehicle suddenly appeared at that junction" (lose speed, consider road position change)
"what would I do if a mad driver presented himself on my side of the road over this hump back bridge" (look for escape route - avoid the head-on at ALL costs)
etc etc
If in doubt, DON'T!!

Don't get me wrong (i knew my last post was misleading) I don't get an adrenaline rush from the risk taken which I try to minismise with careful planning and observation, more from the acceleration of the car and the control of a motor vehicle.
I am a firm believer in reading (and practising) Roadcraft.

Cool. Sorry that I was preaching to the converted.
I came to within an inch of buying the farm in the summer in my Cerb, I also nearly killed my passenger, before that I had never even had a bump and thought I was immortal.
NOW if i'm fairly travelling even straight line M'way stuff I am thinking about blow outs and the like.
Its changed me and I think i'm better for it.
