Claims Investigator
Discussion
Hi all
I was involved in a smash a couple of months ago where the third party pulled out of minor road, plowing into my passenger door in the process. In my eyes, third party clearly at fault (he didn't directly accept liability but stated "I'm sorry if it was my fault" at the scene). Given the statement I made to my insurer the following day they also agreed I was not at fault and would pursue the third party for repair costs. I also have pictures of both mine and the third parties vehicles, showing damage to my passenger door and minimal damage to his drivers side front bumper - to me that would also back up my claim.
Today I have received a letter from the third parties insurer, assigning a "claims investigator" to the case. They'd like to arrange an appointment with me, in person, to take a statement. Alarm bells are now ringing that the third party is now denying responsibility. My question is thus; how do I handle this attempt to make an appointment? I have given a statement over the phone already to my insurer, in addition to a written statement. My story hasn't changed, and won't. Can they not accept what I have already said? Secondly, if this is an "investigation" - surely the 3rd party insurer could have assigned someone to come and physically inspect the damage and take a statement from me at the time?
Any help appreciated.

I'd suggest the only reason they want to investigate themselves is that they are looking for any reason at all to challenge your version of events.
Liaise with your insurers but I'd venture that they'll tell you to tell them to get lost but politely. If they want to hear from you directly they'll need to go to court and its just not worth it.

Interestingly I called and they told me to engage with them,
Now since I received this letter (almost 2 months ago) I have heard nothing until today, my partner calls me to tell me that a claims investigator has arrived at the house unnanounced.
Interestingly, the investigator is from a business called "UK Assistance" and part of Direct Line Group (the other parties insurer). This person had come all the way from Bromley so a wasted trip as I am at work.
