More tailgating cops..kind of!

I was on the northbound M1 yesterday lunchtime and noticed a traffic cop in the inside lane, actually i noticed the traffic jam he was creating first!
I join the slow snake of cars now doing exactly 69 miles an hour in the outside lane...just after i had got passed, the cops ANPR must have warned him about the dodgy looking escort infront of me and he was up my arse in a heartbeat with a speed differential of about 40mph. it seemed like i was going to get rear ended and i had no where to go apart from force my way into the middle lane.
Was that really necessary? The car he was interested in was stuck in traffic doing the same speed as me, why drive up my backside and scare the crap out of me like that? :rant:
Who is at fault if an accident occurs in that situation?

Similar thing happened to me tonight, driving at 70mph over Barton Bridge on the M60, police Range Rover comes flying up behind me, sits about 10 feet from my bumper, and floors it when I move over (once I'd passed the traffic).
I thought they were only allowed to speed with their lights on?

If possible, try to get out of the path of police car....there might be reasons he doesn't want to switch on the blue lights just yet....
If it all goes wrong and the police car hits you...you'll be able to claim all sorts of things, damage to car, injuries, stress etc.....
It a win/win situation for you....

I'm not sure that's entirely true when everything is taken into account, and it certainly isn't for the rest of us. Whatever financial penalties are notionally laid at the door of a police driver found guilty in such an incident, the rest of us will end up paying.
