why is the Crown Prosecution Service still called that then?, the Crown (Queen) has absolutely no power anymore, so why not change the name to the "State Prosecution Service"?

Because under the English legal system (Scottish may be different, many of their laws are) all prosecutions are brought in the name of the crown, eg R vs xyz.

Even though the monarch doesn't have a lot to do with the operation of the judiciary that is our legal system.

I think the make it up as we go along prosecution service might be more appropriate

If memory serves me right they tried to a few years back but got a kicking in the paper so thought better of it.
