Can a minbus use bus lanes

As it says really. We'll be hiring a couple of minibuses (17 seaters) over the weekend. Just wondered, should we find any, are we allowed to use the bus lanes?

Also, while I'm here, anyone know the Dartford Crossing charge for a minibus. As far as I can see it's not listed on there website.

the only buses that may use the lane are
those running a local service. Where the
word "local" is not shown, the lane may be
used by any vehicle designed to carry more
than 8 passengers, excluding the driver, and
local buses.

I can't remember ever seeing the local sign on a London Bus Lane - surely this is a massive loophole for commuters during rush hour - just buy an old minibus and sail past the queues?

If you've got more than 9 seats, you can use a bus lane. Local or not.

I think you may find its only vehicles being used for hire or reward can use the bus lane.

i'm not sure of current vehicles

for a pre 97 licence holder it's irrelevant due to grandfather rights D1 (101)

also a 4.25t MAM minibus can be driven under the catB derogation if it's 'accessible'


bus lanes - the 'local' labelling has been mentioned , all bus lanes have a TRO which says exactly who can and can't use them .

Minibuses, also vans with seats and windows behind drivers but not with rear bulk-head are charged the same as cars (£2)

This is a local bus lane for local buses. There's nothing for you here.

Yes there are.

As said, anything with more than 8 passenger seats can use a bus lane as long as it is not designated for local buses only.
