From the "ilk" thread () There was a posting about a biker with a police style flourescent jacket with "POLITE" instead of "POLICE"

Strangely it sounds like a good idea as anything to draw attention to the bike has got to be a good thing but is it too close to impersonating a police officer?

So is it legal?

Anybody is entitled to wear a hi-vis jacket - in fact bikers are encouraged to.

He's just showing that he's excessively polite, to reassure anybody who might be upset for some reason...

Couple of acts that ban the wearing of police uniform:

B.T. Commission Act 1962 section 43 :

..for unlawful purpose puts on the dress (uniform) of PC.

Police Act 1996 Section 90 (2):

Person not being a BiB wears any article of Police clothing in circumstances giving him an appearance of so nearly resembling a PC as to be calculated to deceive.

So under the circumstances described no offence until or at at such time as he starts to wave traffic down etc.
